but I have too much self respect to ever be morbidly obese, and if that requires a change in behavior, than so be it.

Except for a select few with actual disorders of the thyroid etc, there simply is no excuse for the vast majority of the fat asses in this country. I love to eat, and I drink like a fucking fish, but I have made certain adjustments as I get older, one of them I thought I would NEVER make, I actually quit drinking beer. I have found as I get older that all the gym time in the world can't make up for a twelve pack a day. lol. If I can give up beer so as not to join the ranks of the fat ass senior citizens you are talking about, other people can certainly give up the fucking bon bons.

Yes, obesity is a huge problem in this country, and I would say that B and D are the biggest contributors to this problem. You can "live to eat" and still stay in shape. I have one of the most stressful careers you could possibly imagine, AND I drink like a fish, yet I have been able to maintain a weight of right around 170, which at 5' 10" is a healthy weight for me. It now takes an effort, a bigger effort every year I might add,  but with an effort almost everyone can maintain a healthy weight.

Heard on the radio this morning that as millions will be retiring and enrolling in Medicare this year, that although Baby boomers mostly don't smoke like their parents.  They are obese!  And have several complications like diabetes and heart disease.  This got me thinking, why is that?

A) are people living to eat, instead of eating to live?

B) is it the processed, junk, quick foods that are on the market today?

C) is it stress eating and more and more having eating disorders?

D) is it a lazy group that sits on their ass and watches hours of TV everyday and not staying active?

E) is it a generation of heavy alcohol abuse?

Damn getting old ain't for pussies and I hurt more than I use to.  Not sure what they will say about my generation, probably we smoked too much weed. :)  But I refuse to go out as a glutton, and it's about self control sometimes.  Damn getting old and having to get new knees because you are too fat to carry your own weight.  Having to stick yourself with a needle everyday because you love cake and pies after every single meal.  Fuck that, sitting in front of the TV or computer eating potatoe chips and milk duds.  Keep fucking guys, it will keep you young, active and limber. :)

it's the junk, quick, processed foods on the market today that will make people fat.  And good for you coming off the beer.  I have tons of experience in drinking and can tell you that beer gives a gut that an otherwise decent diet and exercise can't help.  It's the glutens most Americans are allergic too, gives you the morning trots and still leaves you with a gut even though you shit your brains out.  Hard liquor mixed with a soda or tonic, even wine is much much better on the gut. :)

You are doing great with weight, must be your Asian genetics. :)  I have personally joined Weight Watchers (the best way to learn portion control) several times in my life when I put on extra lbs.  It's balance for me, eating healthy most of the time and splurging so I don't feel deprived.

1) cost of fatter content foods are much cheaper than produce and more readily available, especially in the inner city where obesity is out of control. I mean you can go to McDonalds can get a double cheeseburger for a buck! ONE dollar! Can try and get a salad for less than $5.

2) rise of the internet, cell phones, video games, etc. are causing kids to be much less active physically

3) parents that want/need to be their child's friend. So many kids can just go into the pantry and grab whatever they want as much as they want and it is stocked with crap foods.

taking sedentary jobs, sitting in a cubicle for 30 years typing.  A housewife would be busier and could also have time to prepare healthier foods.

Children do not get enough recess and too much homework.  Teaches us early on how to sit still and keep working.  No wonder people escape with cell phones, video games.. because we really want time outside to play.  Look at Finland's lifestyle, they are healthier and happier.  Mainly because they do not have to worry about getting older because they know they will be taken good care of.

People are more stressed, cortisone and swelling from all the medications from being stressed out is making people fat.  And fat people are more likely to end up in a nursing home. I ain't going out like that, my boots will be on and I won't sit down and retire.  I would definitely be playing in the dirt everyday.

I have a theory that I have witnessed first hand.
Have you noticed that the restaurants that serves the larger portions are mostly consider the best places to eat? I mean there's a place I know where they'll give you two salads to start, then the largest baked potato stuffed with everything you can imagine, plus a ton of a brown rice, then your 4 oz steak if that. This meal is filled with "Fluff. Everyone will try to chow down the whole meal, then as they walk out of the joint, they're rubbing their gut saying "Dam, best meal ever". Then they'll go home and crash out on the sofa. And when I entertain clients from Europe, they rarely finish their meal. They'll say that we American don't know how to dine. That we prefer quantity over quality...which I kinda agree with them.
Plus all the competition over the budget consumer with how can we improve the Happy Meal.....hell give them more shit, larger fires, super size this and that...Poor Lil Johnny

and try to refrain from chips and salsa they put on the tables, or hot rolls they bring out before food,

We were poor as shit and my father demanded that whatever was on your plate, you eat it. My older brother was a very fussy eater, didn't eat it if he didn't like it and that would drive my father crazy, he'd whack my brother and send him off to his room, so it was that fear that I was "trained" to eat everything that's put on my plate. In a way I am still like that now and I'm close to 60. If it's on my plate,I'm eating it. Tough habits are hard to break and I can't think of one food that I don't like...On, I'm 5'10, 165lbs.

My job had become more sedentary after 2002, and although I didn't eat fries, shakes or deserts a fairly regular diet of fast food burgers and soft drinks quickly started adding inches to my waist line. I still love burgers; but I almost never eat them from the BIG corporate fast-food chains anymore. And when a hamburger or any entree includes "fries" at a restaurant I always ask to substitute salad/steamed vegetables or fruit.

Kids get far too little physical exercise these days. Recess and phys-ed are almost thing of the past at schools now, and if a kid speaks out of turn in class a counselor is recommending the parents put em' on Ritalin. In many burgs sending a child "out to play" is tantamount to child endangerment, and the ever increasing need for double incomes almost assures a childhood of video games and 'device' addiction while waiting for the parents return from work. There are far too many "Cartmans" being raised these days, and the lampooning 'South Park' focused on shopping center/supermarket mobility chairs is only a primer of the future

it is from eating supper super late and going straight to bed with a combination of a habit of eating a big lard homemade biscuit for breakfast.

I work out at least five days a week and have a low BMI.   Also eat very carefully and increasingly sparingly. The result is I'm slim and athletic looking.
As for the way the rest of my generation looks, I don't think you're right.  We're probably no worse looking or overweight than any other part of this society.  If you want to see how the average person looks just go into any McDonalds on any interstate and you'll see lots of overweight and unhealthy people of all ages.

Being retired helps, too.  But even when I worked I still went to the gym at noon every day.  Most weeks I actually work out six days.

obesity and that almost everybody is overweight  even teenagers .

Sad but it is fact 70 % of food in food chain  where average American shops for groceries is genetically modified
While most European countries have banned GMF  do research if do not believe.
I may post too if needed ..
here are the skinner person then more well doing in life he /she is - can afford organic food

If you want to find an example of eating healthy, look east not west. Asian diets are MUCH healthier than those of the typical European, and the further north you go in Europe, the more unhealthy the diet. One is hardly going to call a British or German diet "healthy" by any stretch of the imagination, and quite predictably there are a lot of fat ass Germans, Engish et al, just like there are a lot of fat ass Americans.

As for "organic food" what a fucking crock of shit. Organic food is no better for you than the regular stuff you buy in the supermarket. Organic food is yet another scam created to take advantage of stupid white people with too much money that suffer from "white guilt" You don't see that shit in any Asian markets, except the ones that have been overrun by white people

Go far enough west you will end up in the east. The earth is round like an Italian girl's ass.

What logical conclusion leads you to believe that the desire to consume organic produce, is an affliction of white guilt?

why young girls are getting breasts so young now.  It's hormones, and I beg to differ that the preservatives in foods today are causing illnesses like cancer.

The Asians eat many things from the sea, what's available to the region.  More natural and organic.

And Americans are fat asses because of all you can eat buffets and gorging into a gluttonous sugar shock.  I once waitress where I had to sit a family of 3 at a 6 top table.  Their bellies dropped below the chairs.  Disgusting

I travel to Europe at least 4 times a year and my eyeballs tell me Americans top the Obesity list. Other developed countries are catching up as we continue to do a mighty fine job spreading our unhealthy processed food(WMD's) through retailers such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dominoes, etc. I do agree with you "organic food" is indeed a crock of shit.

Of the ten most obese countries, fully half of them are European, and while Germany doesn't make the list, it's neighbor Austria does and so does the UK.

Also, as predicted no Asian countries make the list, and that's not just genetics speaking. Unfortunately there are a lot of fat assed Asians, who only seem to get that way after many years of eating American crap food.

So, shock of all shocks, It doesn't look like we really disagree all that much on the subject. At least where it comes to the important part of the debate, which is American fast food is crap. Well, I don't really even think there is a debate on that subject. I will add that people who buy food in the grocery store that comes in a box are just fooling themselves that they are eating any healthier than those that fill up with Big Macs and Pizza. Virtually all processed foods are poison. I am so thankful that I really don't care for the taste of it either, so giving it up was never really an issue once my taste buds matured in my late teens, early twenties.
