I where I grew up, if you had a dick, two arms and two legs (you didn't even need two hands to be a lineman), and a head to put a helmet on, you played football. If all the guys, who could play, didn't suit up, there would be no team. And, in the Midwest, every high school fielded a team. Can't recall there being a problem with rape, gang rape or beating up girlfriends, etc.
Yes, the Football culture can go a bit overboard for some schools, but so does the football (soccer) culture in other countries, or the hockey culture or the La Cross culture. The abuse culture comes from a combination of how a guy sees how his father treats his mother and other women, partly due to a history of being permitted to demonstrate abusive behavior without there being any consequences for said behavior, and partly due to group dynamics. Blaming it on football, or any other sport is very narrow-minded. You want to show any studies that show said behavior occurs more readily with members of football teams than the general population?
