When I started in the hobby I had lousy experiences with a couple of Indie ladies and that led me to trying agencies. I now use both but I think a lot depends on where you are. I have two great agencies her in Boston that I use exclusively but when I travel I see mostly Indie gals. Going the agency route is only easier if you live in an area where there a reputable agencies. BTW, I've had agency girls flake on me at the last minute just as some Indies do. It happens. What the agency and/or the lady does to make it right is what counts. There are no absolutes no matter what route you choose.
I try not to post my opinions here too often, but hey, its after 11 pm on a Friday here in England, there is nothing on TV, and I've spent my monthly hobby budget.
Agencies seem to have a bad rep on this board. One poster today said "Don't mess with agencies." I think is unfair. Most of the experienced hobbyists here say "stay with indys". For the most part I agree. An indy with multiple pages of reviews is more likely to be more experienced, more professional, and more skilled than an agency gal. But that doesn't that thet same can't be found at an agency.
Remember, the college girl who posts on CL is just as much an `independent as the TER legends with 5+ pages of reviews. Likewise, the term agency covers both the classified ad "call us for companionship", and yellow pages escort ads (neither are recommended), been there, done that and have been disspointed many times. Still there are some agencies out there that are as popular, and sometimes more, than than the local indys.
There are some great agencies out there (although, not in every market)! Rather than exclude "agancy" in your search, search on the phone number of the agency gals. If you find some agencies with multiple girls with multi-page reviews you have found a good agency to work with!!! Examine them just like you would an indy!
At the risk of alianating my indy friends, here are the advantages of a quality agency:
1) Scheduling is alot easier! With an ''indy, you are dealing with one woman. If you are simply horny, and don't need a specific woman to scratch your itch, a quality agency is more likely to have a lady available at your desired date and time.
2) Once you have been cleared to see one of the agancy's ladies, you have been cleared to see tham all.
3) Of course, protect and help yourself! If the agency asks for a reference, ask if the agency will provide a reference for you. The quality ones will, but if not, move on.

All good points. The key is to do your homework regarding the lady and her quality of service. For that you need a VIP membership. You need to read the reviews carefully.
newbies just starting out - not intended to last a lifetime. I agree - I could name two extremely well known and excellent agencies in Chicago that I would highly recommend.
For newbies, it just make more sense to me to have them contact an independent lady to START with... and grow from there.
(TOFTT, schedule session with ladies not reviewed etc. come after a bit of experience)

I STRONGLY disagree with this one.
During my first venture into the hobby, I tried scheduling with an indie, as I heard good things about them on TER. My experience with them was abysmally horrible. One canceled on me at the last minute, just because she didn't like the way I sounded on the phone (nervous), and another one actually gave me fake directions. At that point, my friend told me to try using an agency. I was hesitant at first, but I didn't have much choice. So I took the plunge. Wow! The experience was incredible. The operator was very nice and sympathetic to me being a newbie, and the provider was accommodating and tolerant to any awkwardness that took place.
I think agencies are better for newbies. With an agency, you talk to an operator, not the same provider you'll be seeing. As a result, she won't hear you sound nervous, and become prejudiced as a result. As bad as it'll sound (and I'm willing to risk it), agency girls don't have as much choice in who they'll see, so they're less likely to reject a newbie just because he's not experienced.

i'm guilty of cancelling at the last minute because the guy made me nervous on the phone.
asking alot of questions will raise alarms. unfortunately thats something newbs have in common with le.
