my vanilla sisters who make on average .77 cents to a man's dollar

What are people's thoughts on some women going on strike this Wednesday? I know you gents love us ladies from our heads to our toes but I'm curious if anyone has put any thought into this 'movement'.

I attached a link to a Instagram post from a stripper from NYC that is a hilarious illustrator that sparked my curiosity on this topic. Please enjoy her funny, insightful and burtly honesty jokes about being a female entertainer.

Oh and please no rants about politics because it's not sexy  to read.

She is a hoot! I know exactly who you are talking about. Though to ask what someone's thoughts are on the movement, is in turn asking for their opinion albeit semi-political.

Companionship is my avocation - one that I am so glad I found and truly love; however, I love my career too. As the only woman of color in my specific speciality and in a field dominated mainly by men and other men of color, I am so looking forward to Wednesday. I informed my superior, a man actually, that I would not be in on Wednesday as a way to stand in solidarity with my vanilla sisters who make on average .77 cents to a man's dollar, and my black and brown sisters who make anywhere from .55-.68 cents to a man's dollar. Even though I negotiated a salary that was highly competitive with the men, not every person has that same skill set or is comfortable.

Surprisingly, he was oddly supportive and told me I did not need to use vacation time. I made sure to get that in writing. *laughs*

Thank you so much for being the first to finally contribute to my post. In all seriousness, I was looking forward to hearing from the gents with some comic relief on the lines of, 'ladies deserve more loving so let me suck on those toes and pet that kitty...' but obviously that isn't happening.
Oh well, their loss on sharing some jokes :D
Happy Monday y'all!

I'd definitely like to hear from you since my PhD research encompasses this topic. According to what I have in my computer & my hard copy resources even from last year, from both left & right leaning authors, it has not been debunked. However, I'm not one to start a debate. However, if you're cool with the idea, I enjoy CIVIL dialogue and discourse with someone, and I'm actually inviting you to slide into my DMs so we can dialogue about it.

Again, this is not a way to get into a heated debate. I'm just genuinely curious what you have to say & I'm not one for hijacking the thread.

Let me ask a simple question first, would you say someone who worked 35 hours per week should take home the same pay as someone who worked 40 hours per week?

https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303532704579483752909957472

"The BLS reports that single women who have never married earned 96% of men's earnings in 2012."

The real gap is about 4%, when every thing else is equal.

Add in the opportunities in the under ground economy that we are all familiar with, where just about any woman can make some money and most men can't, and the gap disappears.

Agree. When researchers control for the many factors involved in how much money people are paid, like hours worked, education, type of job, whether or not a woman chooses to have children, etc., the 77 cents per dollar figure becomes less and less credible.

When looked at generally, women tend toward jobs that are less physical and require what are referred to as "the soft skills," like interpersonal communication, teamwork, and so on. There is a movement toward more women in tech and engineering, but as in all things, personal preference does make a difference.

Also, men are the vast majority in jobs where one's life is actually at risk. These jobs are compensated accordingly, which tilts the numbers as well. Again, men's and women's choices are at work, sometimes conflicting with the narrative some members of society would prefer.

Finally, regarding economics alone, business owners seek to maximize profit by reducing overhead. If they truly could pay women only 77% what men earn, most men would be un-hireable. Owners would staff up with women at a lower labor cost.

I don't buy that number and haven't for years. That said, women can do what they like tomorrow. If they choose to march, fine. I hope they have a good experience. If they choose to go to work, that's fine, too.

There was an interesting study out of Norway, which is considered one of the most progressive countries in the world.  No stone is left unturned trying to recruit women into STEM fields.  Year after year, decade after decade, women choose not to go into STEM fields.  They gravitate toward teaching and nursing careers.  Being in a relatively rich society they have the most options in which fields to study and which careers to pursue. They exercise their freedom -- by avoiding STEM careers.

Ironically it is women in poorer countries who are more likely to go into STEM fields -- because it is a ticket out of poverty.  Their choice is more limited so they will take non-female jobs out of necessity.  Give women total freedom of choice and they will avoid STEM careers.

Well, if we want to stay true to the phrase - leave it how you found it, then yes on the toilet seat comment. lol if I find it up then I should return it to its original spot.

My mind has been blown ;)

Egalitarian relationships of men and women respecting and valuing each other, financially, decision making, sexually, parentally, in all ways.  It is a more loving way.  the deniers will deny everything they don't like as we have seen above about the inequality in society of women and about minorities.  even deny this. Sadly they are who they are.  Women who are strong are sexy and respect of each other is a greater turn on and more satisfying. Respect allows for more connection and thus more affection that is deeply felt even in this hobby hour.  Thank you my ATF.
