since it was contained within and not spread, big factor, I had robotic, wands go down in cut it out and pull it out.  If it has spread outside, that's a different story.
First thing I did when I found out was I started exercising the Kagel muscles to strengthen so to speed up control of the bladder after. First is recovering from surgery and the catheter (2 weeks) and energy level. Next was gaining control of the bladder.  fairly short for me since I prepared for. it can be lengthy.  normal sexual endeavors? well, about a year. erections very difficult. no fluid.  age and the surgery and life is different. desire is not what it was.  it still is more difficult but can do it.  a work friend still has zero back, nothing he says.  my ATF does it completely for me.  so, obviously, I only see her.
good luck to you.  do everything as healthy as you can. diet, exercise, emotions, stress, and peace and calm inside you.

I posted this on the GND board, and the first response kind of threw the topic out of context.  This is sensitive so here goes;
Has anyone here been afflicted with Prostate Cancer? If so which option did you utilize? Surgery, Robotic Surgery Radiation, or Proton Therapy?  Finally how long were you sidelined from normal sexual endeavors, including the hobby?  If you have any advice to help me, that would be appreciated!  Since this is so sensitive, and since I am just a Basic Member, you are welcome to email me [email protected].  Your input would be most appreciated!

In my humble opinion, this is a relevant question because of the connection between the prostate and sex. I've often wondered what I would do in regards to the hobby if I ever contracted prostate cancer. Been lucky so far, but every day has new adventures and new unknowns.

I was diagnosed with a very small percentage of prostate cancer a little over six years ago.  Discussed all the options... Wait and see, radiation therapy, chemo, or robotic surgery.  Some of the doctors I talked with indicated the radiation, if not successful, made surgery more difficult.  I was just over 60 when this all presented itself, I recovered really painlessly and quickly except for the side effects, incontenance and ED issues.  I tried the pump which got a strong erection but the rings could never sustain it for me.  I did injections into the penis which provide good results.  Surprisingly the injection was not so painful as I first thought and the erection lasted for several hours which was somewhat uncomfortable.  I was never able to correct the incontinence issue and elected for the surgical correction, and at the same time a penile implant for the ED problem.  Fortunately the original condition was all military service related so the procedures didn't come out of my pocket.  I still have to wear a pad for some little leakage.  My erection is not as big as it once was but is strong enough and lasts until I release the valve.  All in all I was out of commission about 6 months.

Hope this has been helpful.  Some have said that every man will have some stage of prostate cancer when they die.  I guess it's a gamble whether it's what kills you or something else.  I sometimes think where I would be if I had elected for a "wait and see" approach rather than the surgery.

Seriously considering Proton Therapy; seems there are no side effects.
Thank you

I was diagnosed 4 years ago at age 63. After a lot of research I chose Proton Therapy with hopes of good results with a lack of side effects. That's what I got!

I actually was more sexually active during and after treatment than I had been before. I had absolutely NO side effects of any kind during or after treatment. My PSA steadily declined after treatment (a slower decline relative to surgery is normal) and has been less than .05 for the last two years, with no other issues or side effects.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

Thank you very much.....that is what I am leaning to provided my ins plan will cover.  Glad all is well with you

I had prostate cancer last year and had the robotic surgery in November. The surgery went well and the rehab process, aided by some wonderful " therapists" from TER has been successful. (See my board post on 4/14)
    Radiation treatment requires a daily treatment for 4 weeks and the proton radiation is not widely available and might require you to be away from home to get treatment. I was in the hospital for one night and went back to work in 10 days.
If you choose the robotic surgery, be sure to find a surgeon who is very experienced with the procedure.
