So Americans voted to declare the current Congress:

1. Worst Congress in history
2. Worst Do Nothing Congress in history

and what are they doing about it:

. Will vote in record numbers to return the same Congress with bigger majority?

Contrast with India.   Indians in May / June booted the Do Nothing Government run by the Congress Party.

They'll just vote the incumbent figuring things are "OK" so why not. They also go by name recognition, "Oh I heard that guys name before". Very few look at the platform of the candidates and just vote to the party that they've always voted for. I'm a Republican, therefore I vote Republican, not knowing that their party has shifted.
I guess they're called RINO's...or what's that saying..."I didn't leave my party, my party left me

I was in India and my extended families were all life long supporters of Congress Party.   However, millions like them moved their loyalty and voted for a change because the incumbent party was in power too long and things were going bad.

If people cannot vote for a change, change does not occur.    You vote for the same people, you get the same results.

I will not be surprised if the same people, a year from now say "this is by far the worst congress we have seen in our history" (but we voted for them!).

A lot of people moved away from the Congress party because after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the party pretty much lost its face. There was some hope with Rahul Gandhi but he turned out to be an utter failure. Sonia Gandhi, being a foreigner, could never really win the hearts and minds of people.  So the reasons for people moving away were totally different and they don't even come to picture here.

If you ask me Indian politics is somewhat of a Democratic monarchy. After getting independence in 1947, in less than 60 yrs, there were Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. That's 4 generations right there.  We don't have that here.

Also in the country where there are 100s of parties, its not very difficult to lose party loyalty. Politicians form their own parties all the time so that they either can join a coalition and make a quick buck in form of direct compensation or to curry up favors. When that happens, they take their base with them.

To compare Indian politics to US Politics in that sense is completely asinine.

My comparison of Indian and US democracies was limited to the fact in spite of hundreds of parties the voters were unified in voting the do nothing Congress Party out of power.

If Americans keep voting for US Congress that does not give either party a overwhelming majority, then nothing will get done.    Expectations and getting bills passed in to law should trump party loyalty and partisan politics.   I don't care which party gets the overwhelming majority, it is what is needed

for the ruling part to lose power are based on false premise that there was some form of cultural/social revolution.

The only person whom the entire country can vote to the office is the guy sitting in the Oval Office, and there is more dramatic shift of power in the  US than in India. The pendulum of power shifts in United States every 8 yrs or so.  Bush- Clinton - Bush - Obama....

You cannot VOTE OUT Congress unless you vote out the people in the Congress, who tend to be popular/liked - by and large. Congress is not one person !!!

India is 3rd world country dude... Wake up. Voters here are more knowledgable about the current issues than there....

India a third world country!     It has the most populous and robust democracy since 1950 and compare that to the neighboring dump and your ally called Pakistan, LMAO.   No military dictators and no coups!    The same country voted out former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1975 and her majority party in Parliament for following authoritarian policies.    Hey they are educated and know what is going on.

Why are American companies like Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Apple, Google, Yahoo, Cisco, Target, HP, Bank of America, Capital One have massive offices in that third world country and hire thousands of people to work.     There are more American companies in USA looking for technology graduates from India than here.    Why can't these companies just write off India as a third world country?

The CEO of Microsoft is from India!    Get educated.

If there are people who go and vote for the likes of Sarah Palin (foreign policy expert because she can see Russia from her porch), Michelle Bachmann ( a NJ high school girl challenged her to debate on live TV about the US Constitution, Civics and History)  and Rick Perry (he does not even know the voting age)  your claim 'voters here are more knowledgeable (by the way that is the correct spelling for the word) about current issues' is a big joke

Like I said.. Everything I had heard about you from some of my pals is true.....And then some more...

What would you call the country where in 2012 there were 269.3 million people (21.9% of the population) living below the poverty line per the Planning Commission, the government’s own think-tank..

I never said that there weren't smart people in Accounting, Finance, Medicine, Technology..especially in technology in India. With population of 1.3 Billion, there are bound to be a few smart people. Also being ruled by the British for over 150 yrs, English was never a problem with them like it was with Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans.

Multinational companies going to India is not the measure of whether its a third world country or not.  And what does electing a female Prime Minister got to do with anything. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have both had female heads of states. Big fuckin' deal.

Is India as bad as some of the African countries.. NO.. Is it as bad as Pakistan and Bangladesh.. NO...But 3rd world...Its getting better, but still 3rd world.

Greatest and richest country on earth!

38 million people without basic health care
how many millions on food stamps
how many millions can't manage without monthly welfare checks
walk the streets of Manhattan, Chicago, LA, Philly and see the people living on side walks

You may want to see my another post on another board.    Me and my neighbor over the weekend cooked meals for 15 families in Tampa area.   They were diverse (white, black, Hispanic) with children and did not have a full meal in two weeks.    You may want to visit the churches and their soup kitchens and free food just to measure how many people line up hours before!

This country has its share of poverty, homeless, sick and hungry.    Compared to the total population as a percentage, US is a third world country as well.    Get information on how many millions live under the Federal poverty line.    The percentage is equal to your "other third world countries".     US media meticulously avoids showing all this to rest of the world.    They cherry pick the worst of other countries.

I have traveled extensively in Canada and Europe.    If you have not you may want to, to see for yourself where this country stands among "developed and advanced" countries.   You will be surprised.

But it does not compare with the abject poverty in third world countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka... etc.

Third world countries will grow, develop and reduce poverty through progress and economic advancement.    Here is something that US cannot fix.

Two out of ten is a mentally ill or a psychopath and they have free access to deadly assault weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.    The world has seen it is normal and an accepted way of life for these people to go and massacre 6 year olds sitting in an elementary school, their teachers, families sitting in a movie theater, families shopping in malls, devotees worshipping and praying in a temple.    Laid of employees to go and massacre their co-workers and bosses, mothers killing their own kids, divorced and separated dads to go and kill their estranged wives and their own kids.

Problems, backwardness and poverty can be fixed BUT not a culture of guns and killing.

It is hard to keep defending a country with this culture and calling other countries by name and jargons.

Yes they can improve too.. They have made huge strides from 80s and early 90s..But do have a long way to go..

Now what does guns have to do anything that's being discussed here... You are definitely running out of ammo there.. Save some for tomorrow...

All I said was poverty can be overcome in countries and the culture of guns and murders in this country that you claim is superior to third world countries cannot be overcome.

Don't go about degrading countries while you have your own that is more serious than poverty, sick people killing.

Here is another one for you.    A divorced dad killing his own 5 kids, packing their bodies in plastic bags and throwing them on the roadside!     Sick country with sick people.   This trumps everything else that you can claim to declare this country superior.

There are lunatics everywhere.. How about that girl who was gang raped in New Delhi in 2013?

You don't think sick things don't happen in South Asia?

The rapists got the death penalty!    The mass murderer in Tucson, AZ is still alive living on taxpayer money in a country club.    The mass murderer in Aurora, CO is still alive and living in a country club on tax payer money.

I live here, but it does not mean I cannot critique the wrong things in the country.   That is how we build grassroots of change and betterment.     You don't want to sit and take things as they are.    That is more dangerous than accepting what is!

FOX News hosts 24/7 criticize everything wrong in this country, one sided but still live here.

to everything that's negative over here, and painting a far more rosier picture of other countries than it actually is.  Same liberals will speak against death penalty in a heartbeat, and now you don't want due process for those accused?

I am not in favor of unnecessary political correctness, or sometimes political correctness altogether, but there are some cases that truly are borderline cases like that in CO, and in those cases its really innocent until proven guilty. Does it really matter if it takes a few more months or yrs to get to the bottom of the case and deliver proper justice.

Kasab just got death penalty last year after 5 yrs of attacks on Mumbai. The justice did take time....

If US democracy elected POTUS by majority vote, George Bush would never have been president. You just proved you don't know a damn thing about either country.

Going back to OP's point, lots of people voted in India this time for change. First time in decades a single party had a majority. Not damn thing anyone's face but everything to do with ineptitude of Congress.

India has done this sort of thing multiple times because Indians are aware of what is going on in the country. But, you are brain fucking washed to think US # 1.

My hearty congratulations for telling the real truth about US and India.

and elect POTUS by popular vote just to prove your point? Can both of you together make a reasonable argument? I know independently neither of you can... I would suggest merge your personas and create one reasonably smart quasi human...

You know that if you combined the brain power of these two SPOTY candidates, you'd still end up with a moron.

Since you taken that owner decades ago on TER.

You are just an uninformed BLOVIATING fool all over TER with a claim to fame I was TER moderator who was fired for doing great job.

It is about time we either amend or rewrite the constitution.   It was good when people were riding horses and settling scores in bars.     First get rid of that killer second amendment.    It will solve so many problems this country has

is that, you are brain washed to think you are reasonable because you have drunk US is #1 Kool Aid. By the way there are many in this country think the the constitution is written is not working as a democracy but it is working only as pseudo democracy Do you really believe, this is democracy of the majority? How is that?

How is California with the largest population and Wyoming with the lowest population have two senators? How does that represent majority rule?

There is actually a grassroots movement to correct this imbalance. Until this gets corrected, expect nothing better.

Indeed, we can have reasonable debate when you finish completely womiting all the Kool-Aid you have drank.

Most people hate Congress as a whole, but don't dislike their, or in fact in some cases love their congressman/congresswoman.

You can't with one stroke of pen, or with one vote fire or unseat the entire Congress.

Agreed. Another factor, and I admit to my cynicism bleeding through here, is the fact that regardless of WHO is in the Oval Office, they are still answerable to their donors and (What? You thought they were answerable to the People? That's been a Red Herring to mask the corruption in the backrooms where the Kingmakers and Puppetmasters hold court) as such will attempt to implement policies favorable to them. Other than the high profile types like the Kochs on the right or  Soros on the left, the majority of the Kingmakers are less well known, and make sure to donate to both sides of the aisle.

And so it goes. K-Street lobbying firms take money from anyone who gives it to them, in order to buy access and influence. Most of the high powered firms will usually have at least two divisions, one for each side of the aisle. It's all just a shell game, and the 99% of us in America are the marks.

Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal brain dead crowd of Repugnants.

Now, I completely understand why you don’t understand Indian democracy or Indian elections.

Corporations are people too and have more power than real human beings and that’s a democracy of what? Enslavement?

The BJP itself won 31.0% of all votes and 282 (51.9%) of all seats. It is the first time since the 1984 Indian general elections that a party has won enough seats to govern without the support of other parties.[10] The United Progressive Alliance, led by the Indian National Congress, won 58 seats.

Congress and its allies didn’t even win enough seats to be an opposition.

Indians just with one vote fire (don’t know what the shit it means) not only unseated Congress but rendered Congress to be insignificant.
