ill be in NYC next week and wanted to get a proper shave

where would you guys suggest going?

Awesome store with a huge line of men grooming care products.

At the back of the store, they have an enclosed area for shaving and face treatments

Since you were asking on TER, I thought you meant the other kind of shave.  Since you mean a regular facial shave, you ought to know that NYC barbers are required to be licensed and to have the skills and training to provide all barbering services (according to their license):

The "Practice of barbering" includes the performance of the following practices upon the head of a human being: shaving or trimming the beard or cutting the hair of humans; giving facial or scalp massage with oils, creams, lotions or other preparations, either by hand or mechanical appliances; singeing, shampooing, arranging, dressing or dyeing the hair or applying hair tonic; applying cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, powders, oils, clays or lotions to scalp, face or neck. It is the responsibility of licensees to understand the Practice of Barbering License Law.
So, any licensed barber in NYC, with a striped pole and all, should be able to give you a good proper shave.

For THE classic, old New York experience, go to Paul Mole (Lexington and 73rd).
