I guess the main idea was Chicago after 20+ yrs of firearms bans is an interesting test. Crime, esp violent crime and shootings have been pretty well documented and I want to see if allowing cc permits has much effect over the next 12-24 months. I assume as you do that accidental shootings might uptick a bit as well, innocents in crossfires I d say is much more likely in police shootings. But if it has a big impact on violent crime; maybe it's worth it. Only time will tell.
The difference between police a cc permit holders is cc holders are responsible for their bullets hitting innocent people no matter the reason for shooting. Police aren't held to the same standard and tend to unload their weapons. Look at the truck and houses that were shot 100+ times in California while they were hunting for dorner and shot up an innocent person, or the 9 innocent bystanders shot in NYC when police opened fire on a man outside a high rise. Show me one case of a cc permit holder shooting like that? There have been some, navy yard shooter for example who have but it was intentional and really had little to do with his cc permit. Besides after being treated for mental health issues why was he given a permit to carry anyway?

There  is no measurable correlation between gun laws and gun violence bc so many other factors impact gun violence. So these stats neither support gun control nor gun rights.

My prediction, however, is that increased cc means more accidental shootings and more innocents shot in cross fires. Logically, that has to be true and is why I oppose cc, except where the permit holder shows a need to be armed.

...door at 4:00 at night was sentenced to 17 to 32 years in prison.

In related news, the NRA still plans to go ahead with a life-size statue of the killer called: "Defending My Castle."

...did after the Rodney King verdict.  Only the NRA won't just be armed with rocks.  They could make a powerful statement with their "independent thought."

Of course we need independent thought!  Who the hell do the courts think they are anyway?

... so your answer is you follow everything the court says?

Think hard BP you might find yourself disagreeing with the court one day.

Just because you might disagree with the court. That does not give cause to act foolishly

My congratulations to the DA, Prosecutor, the Jury and the Judge for fu*king the second amendment right

The damn fool used his gun in a felonious fashion. That does not make the the 2nd Amendment culpable or 'fuckable'. It only proves the 'man' acted criminally.

Often guns are successfully used in home defense as compared to accidental shootings and homicides committed in the name of home defense. You may recall I speculated there are 10 of the latter for everyone of the former but I still think that is about right.

With public carry increasing on a daily basis, these kind of headlines are going tobe ever more frequent.

Its too early to tell.
Honestly CC permit holders have an accidental shooting rate that is similar to LE. I don't believe CC is the problem. Untrained people with firearms is much more dangerous. Shooting someone on your porch will get you charged in every state but Texas I think.

And the police say he is a model citizen? No,no,no. A citizen has no privilege to shoot a fleeing suspect and this guy should be charged and then sued by the bad guy. The police could not use deadly force in this situation and neither could grandpa.

Unless you favor bringing back Bronson, spades you should be outraged.

Where is DA Flex when we need him?

I normally would agree but it can be augued if the suspect had already hurt some one with a violent action, was brandishing a gun and running towards you defending yourself might be justified.
I was more asking if you thought cc would lesson violent crime in Chicago over the next year or increase shootings ect? Not sure the drop is due to cc right now but if cc permit holders are not shooting innocent people is there any harm?

It's obvious to you that CC permits will increase the number of accidental shootings but not even a tiny consideration or acceptance that there will be a decrease in actual crime against the CC holder.

And then there's the aspect that you think you know who "needs" to be armed

Are similar to CC accidental shootings. LE receives serious gun training. In states like Texas you can get a cc permit with just afew hours training. That's just not logical.

I think you are are guessing here Buddy. There are no peer reviewed stats on this.

Not much time to look up stats on cc permit holders but here s one on fatal accidental shootings.
On the other hand, Newsweek has reported that law-abiding American citizens using guns in self-defense during 2003 shot and killed two and one-half times as many criminals as police did, and with fewer than one-fifth as many incidents as police where an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal (2% versus 11%).
