My got them a few weeks ago on his face. Feel bad for him. Now I got them. Rash on one butt cheek. Little itchy but dried out now. But it's a bummer I can't see anyone for awhile.

Folks -- Just a reminder that those of us over 60 really need to get this vaccination, unless you're unable to get it for one of the reasons on the CDC site linked below.  I write this for two reasons:

1. I'm getting mine next Tuesday.

2. My dad got shingles completely out of the blue in his mid-80s and became legally blind as a result.  I read a medical journal article suggesting a connection between shingles and an increased risk of TMI strokes about six months after contracting shingles.  I found the article about two weeks before he had his first TMI stroke -- at just about the six-month point.

If your medical plan doesn't cover it, my doc says the cheapest place to get it is Costco, believe it or not.

The shot does cost a lot! I paid 195.00 and with a discount discount.

That is what I was told?

I do know you want to do whatever you can to not get it!!
I can also see why most people do not get the shot because of the cost!
The most $ shot I ever got!!
Glad I had some $ on HSA!!

Cost me $284 as it was not covered by my insurance. Expensive, but I felt the cost was worth compared to the potential symptoms...

I paid $225 at OSCO 5 years ago.  Insurance really should cover it, but insurance companies are soul-sucking evil corporations.  But I think it's worth whatever it costs, since shingles can be awful.

I got my shingles shot four years ago just before my grandson was born. I just got over a case of shingles. It lasted about 6-8 weeks. Because of the shot, I believe I had a light case: it followed a single rib line, and each of the about five (simultaneous) eruptions along that rib line was only about the size of a thumbnail.  It was the pain (more soreness) that got to me.  It was like someone had knocked me to the ground and had kicked me in the ribs several times.  The muscles surrounding the rib line were sore for about four weeks, then it get less.  Three months later there is no evidence of the eruptions and no longer any sort muscles.  I have seen HORRIBLE debilitating cases of shingles. GET THE SHOT

by the afternoon, I knew something serious was going on. I was miserable for weeks.

Even worse I was seeing a little tica in Costa Rica and I had to explain why I couldn't come see her for a few weeks, the Spanish word for shingles is "herpes" try explaining that shit away,

The vaccine may not provide 100% protection, but it decreases incidence - and it decreases the severity if you do get shingles.  Talk to your unvaccinated friends who have had it!!!

I've heard that it's not 100%.  My PCP s pretty much on top of vacinations.

I've had them.....get your shot!
