It depends on the club (and probably the girl). I know that in Parksauna Rezidenz 'time starts' when you start with 'intimate' interactions...I believe most girls will let you know when time is starting. In many other clubs (Oase for instance) time only starts when you get to the room ...if you get that far that is. I guess you should be reasonable as well, if you're just going to session for 30 minutes, you shouldn't expect 20 minutes of forplay in the kino. I usually just kiss a bit - maybe a blowjob - and then wait for the girl to ask to go to a room (sometimes this takes longer than you'd think).

So if I go into the Kino first to start a session as is often recommended, does the clock start when you start touching in the Kino, or when you actually get to the room?

It seems kind of a grey area.

I have been looking for a definition of kino - without any luck.  Sounds like an informal play area where one can get acquanted with the ladies before making a committment.  

Do all clubs have them or are they exclusive to FKK clubs, but not in Sauna clubs?  Are they just in clubs where the ladies approach the men, and not in clubs where the man has to make the initial approach?

As you can gather from previous posts I am trying to get the biggest bang possible from what may be my one-time experience.

Kino is just the german name for  'Movie theatre', it's mini theatre with a big screen showing porn. There are some couches or 'lying areas' so you can watch, often with a girl. It is usually a bit darker so it is common to get to know your girl a bit better or even complete a full program. Most clubs have a kino - the only one without one that I can come up with is Samya - and in most places it is common for some action to take place there - either before going to a room or the whole program. Some girls just hang around the kino to prey on any guy that dares to come near :). In Oase it is very common (95% of my sessions start like this) to go to the kino first, where you kiss a bit and get a short bj, before moving things to a room. I don't think this is that common as a standard procedure in other clubs.

At Oase, I typically get kino 5 min to 10 min (10 min more with repeat)
then in the room there is no official clock so 30 min is easy to get so total 40/45 min with repeat girls
So no kino time does not really count
Then on Sat night when it gets crowded, you wait with the girl on a couch for room to open up, if girls likes you you get DFK and play time at no cost.  Of course if you dont pick well, you are bored and wait for a room to open up and your dick goes south real fast as girl gets real stressed waiting.
In my experience, Oase is the only club where I go to kino every time.
At golden time the top tier girls never go to kino
At happy garden, the kino is so far from living room, waste of time
At living room, people sleep in kino
Also what pisses me off is if kino is full, then you just head to the room but I see many guys sometimes just resting and they are taking kino time to guys like me.  It's so f. rude.

Kino is a lot of fun though and you can do as much as you like.
I saw a few guys having sex in there, but it's usually just BJs or watching.
I just got back from a trip there with my wife.
We had some action in the kino a few nights, turned out to be quite fun.
Had about 10 girls ended up coming in to watch and cheer.
Although was a bit awkward kinda last night as we had started when there were a few guys and girls starting but then they had all stopped to watch and more people had come in (try hard not to look to get distracted hehe).
Got quite an applause at the end from guys and girls which also felt kinda awkward hehe.
