President Barack Obama hinted at the possibility of an upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court Monday during a fundraiser for Senate Democrats.

Speaking to a group of donors to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on a break from his vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, Obama said he needs Democrats to hold a majority this year to fill vacancies to the high court....

If we were to have a couple of Supreme Court vacancies this fall, just before the Midterms, how will this upend Republican plans to take control of the Senate? I think this effectively torpedoes those plans. This would be enough to bring out huge numbers of Blacks, Hispanics, Women, Gays, students etc to the polls to vote during the Midterms. It also doesn't help that in a few weeks the President is going to take Executive action on Immigration, which will surely drive the right wing nut bags bat shit crazy. It's almost a given, the right wing crazies led by Rush Limbaugh will push for immediate Impeachment hearings against Obama.

Stay tuned, enjoy the popcorn, this should be a very interesting fall

1. Speaking at a "fund raiser" = asking for money

2. "Minority groups" don't need saber rattling to get out the.   vote.

3. The Republicans are not going to win control of the Senate.

I don't think any judge will announce a retirement soon. And Ginsburg, who is the oldest has announced that she isn't going anywhere soon so... And midterms for some reason doesn't get anyone alll geek up. I hate to say it but especially the group you mentioned. There isn't a big spike in election voting during midterms, shit I don't think alot of people know about them. And yes I'm looking forward to see what happens.

.........are two very different things. I would think that if a Supreme Court Justice were contemplating leaving the bench, the President would get wind of it very quickly.

IMHO, nothing will get Blacks/Hispanics, Independents more riled up than talk of impeachment. Have you noticed that Ted Cruz  and a few other right wing crazies have backed off the impeachment bandwagon for now. They realize they're losing support from Independents. I expect all the crazies to hop back on the impeachment train when Obama announces Executive action on Immigration next month.

Since when does replacing a Supreme Court Justice have anything to do with impeachment hearings?

I think you need stronger medicine that Salonpas to cure the stupids that seem to have affected you in this thread.

A Supreme court vacancy and Executive action on Immigration by Obama. The resulting uproar of this Executive action from the right wing crazies calling for impeachment will drive blacks/hispanics to the polls.

upholding the Constitution is a crazy idea, but there you have it!

Throw out the cheese, the mice will scramble to get it.

It is the constitution of convenience made up by likes of Rush, Hannity, Faux news and rest the right wing rag. How many of you actually have read the constitution in its entirety?

I'm sure you are well read.

You should follow it sometime.

Down the crapper when you flush, I mean.

Only a "crazy" would WANT Obama to bypass congress on immigration.

Would you want a Republican president to completely gut environmental laws by executive order? The precedent will be set for him to do at that point.

Once you go down that road, paybacks can be a bitch. Be careful what you wish for salon.

And I have NO idea what polls you are looking at. Indy's will vote in large margins for R's this fall.

...have a crystal ball?  Why are you dealing in absolutes when you just told another hobbyist not to do the very same thing?

...Indies will vote for R's in large margins.  There was no room for doubt in your statement, dummy!  IOW, the margins will be "absolute."

It all depends on what they are peddling at any given moment. Not all that unusual

...but I still think the GOP will control the Senate after November. It'll be close, it looks to me like there will be a near 50-50 split. If it's a tie, the Dems still hold power, with Joe Biden casting the tie breaking vote.

many people who never followed current events or voted turned out for Obama. Intoxicated by his teleprompter fed speeches, they worshipped his celebrity and wanted to make history.
.   Supreme Court nominees don't bring people to the voting both. They might not even know there are elections this year so they will be home watching Maury Povich or judge shows.

If people came out and voted, Republicans will lose. So, it is true that, BSC's are a party of the minority and will do everything to make it difficult for people

Great!

...name two justices, nor do they know how powerful the Court is.  If vacancies were the most important reason to vote, then Dubya would never have been elected and caused the damage he did by nominating Alito and Roberts, who will wreak havoc for the next 20-30 years.

Can anyone really imagine "getting the vote out" during the midterms no less, just because the Supremes might have a member or two retiring?

Only political junkies, like someone who you might find posting about politics on a fuck board would even have the slightest idea about how the shaping of the court even had any impact on their lives. And that goes for both Dems and Reps.

There should not any life time appointments any where. All should retire and go through, thorough medical check ups regularly.

lobotomies would be better.

Here's Sotomayor's results.
