Cafeteria in Chelsea

I go to bed early like a grandparent, but the last time I was out super late I remember going to Cafeteria on 7th Ave in West Chelsea at midnight and the place was PACKED. It's a trendy little place and their food is really good especially if you like mac&cheese.

Enjoy!

Does anyone else want to eat dinner extraordinarily late sometimes?  I know that sometimes I don't even think about dinner until like, 11pm, and by then everything good (that I know of) is closed.  Or I eat dinner early and then by midnight I'm dying for a most delicious and satisfying piece of hot food.

I'm a vegetarian, so this means it's harder for me to find good food late at night with a limited selection, and I'm particularly interested in hearing about places that have good vegetarian options (no salad please, unless it's extraordinary salad), but I'm also just interested to hear what other people like, even if it's meaty!

I felt a little disappointed when I moved to the "city that never sleeps" and realized that I was having a hard time finding good late night food.  Please restore my faith with some great 24 hour restaurant recommendations!!

Thank you!

but alas, they are no more...

Now, Blue Ribbon

Also, Lula's in the East Village but that's more dessert-related if you're looking for a sweet spot. Both have vegetarian and vegan options. Lula's is gluten free as well, not sure about Atlas Cafe though.

Try Cozy Soup N. Burger on Broadway and Astor Place in the Village.  Its been featured in a few movies and has always been a place to go late at night.  As a vegetarian I'm not sure what they might have for you (I'm a carnivore myself) but they do have salads, appetizers and stuff, plus a nice selection of soup, try the split pea or lentil!  Its a greasy spoon, but its comfort food is tasty and filling.

FIrst, the Korean restaurants in "Little Korea", 32nd Street between Broadway and Fifth, are virtually all open 24 hours a day.  There are dozens of options, and while the Korean BBQ is the hightlight, there are nurmeous vegetarian options including the famed scallion pancakes, veggie Bi Bim Bap (a rice dish), tofu dishes and the like.    New Wonjo Restaurant is my favorite on that street but there are literally dozens of options.

If you eat fish, there are a number of late night sushi places, the best being Sushi Seki, on First Avenue between 61-62, which is open until 3 A.M. on some nights.

Great NY Noodletown, 28 Bowery in Chinatown, is open until 4 a.m., famous for its noodles and BBQ meats, but there is great Congee (a stick to your ribs rice porridge) which can be plain served with fried dough, or with meat or fish and is great after a night of drinking.

Cafeteria, 119 7th Avenue at 18th Street, very hip and ecletic food (24 hours)

Veselka, 144 Second Avenue in the Village for Ukranian food including Borsht (Beet soup), potato Piroggi (dumpilings) and lots of breakfast options for late night dining (24 hours)

Mamoun's Falafel, 2 locations in the Village, one on St. Marks,  is opened until 5am, been eating their sandwiches since high school (a long long time ago)

Hope this helps, Enjoy

All your posts about places to eat are always right on!
Nothing like a 'real' New Yorker to give us great suggestions.
Mamoun's Falafel! OMG it was my favorite place to eat, after crazy nights spent at the Limelight.
Thanks Rimbaud!

You are most welcome Betty, but there is no dish which exceeds the pleasure of being devoured by you :)

As for Mamoun's, I would eat there in the 1970s after a night of music at the folk music clubs, all long gone.  A sandwich was a dollar (maybe less) and tea was a quarter.  Sigh.

I am an idiot!  Mamouns, of course!  I eat at their MacDougal Street location at least once a week (just didn't know they were open so late!).  It's a hole in the wall but their falafel a are awesomely delicious and cheap.  $2.50 apiece

I am really looking forward to some late night food adventures!  I don't know why I didn't just ask this board sooner.  Thank you all for your suggestions.  :)
