24/7 news cycles and 100 different news networks it's a constant feeding frenzy to out-scoop the network down the hall or across the street.
Every time there is an earthquake greater than 1.5 in California it's 6 solid hours of news coverage with insipid, mind numbing calls from people telling how "TERRIFIED" they were.
