Me thinks Detroit will soon be the playground for venture capitalists, and real estate speculators.  ;)

I know, I know, my liberal heart bleeds for the less fortunate. And no one likes hand outs, unless something is being handed to them. We can piss and moan about social security, or food stamps, or what have you, but shouldn't people, at the very least, have a universal right to have access to WATER?

Yes, clean drinking water that comes out of your tap. So, why on earth would a city like Detroit, which has more access to more fresh water than almost any other city in the nation, would have water prices double the national average? We're not talking about pricey bottles of Fiji here folks, we're talking about expensive TAP WATER.

It seems that Detroit, in all their infinite wisdom, has decided that the water company is allowed to shut off people's water in the middle of summer. They say it's just fine to charge double the national average for water when they have plenty of supply for a city that has a 44% poverty rate.

If there is one SINGLE thing that separates a first world nation from a third world nation, it's access to clean drinking water. No water, no life.

What's next for these lunatics in Detroit? Charge everyone a breathing fee?

Baltimore installing radio controlled smart water meters, so they could easily shut off delinquent customers water service.

....and shutting off thousands of people's water? Really

water is going to be manipulated, rationed and charged as highly for as petroleum.

There is near 7 Billion of us homo sapiens now, and we all can't live/fit on the coast line or near a lake. Monsanto has genetically engineered seeds so that the crop doesn't naturally create new seeds. With evil intent such as that, and global warming a reality it is no stretch of the imagination that someday we'll be paying $5+ for a gallon of clean water.

...pursue my Second Amendment remedies against their asses.  And if they try to control sinsemilla - whoa Nelly!

Ask me about my recent experiences here in nevada.

Big Corp already has their fingers in the pot pie.

They are also responsible for the HFCS in your coke, and the LED in your TV.

Smart business.

as long as I don't see them in the rear view.

... it's kind of funny that both the officer and vehicle can both run on corn...

and those police sirens... why do they make sounds like a squealing and grunting pig?

Have you ever noticed how police vehicles "bully" their way through traffic. I know they are responding to an emergency, but the subliminal message it sends, wow! what a message

Maybe you have a sense of humor after all.

but RRO does make a very, very valid point. Water is the "commodity" of the future. It would not surprise me if the wars of the future were not fought over water, Water rights are huge business, and as the human population of this planet continues to grow, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.

If you want the convenience of treated water at your home, then you have to pay for the convenience. Otherwise, go down to the local police or fire station and fill up a bucket and take it home.

I would not be opposed to something like a smart meter that give you 10 gallons per day for free. After that, it cuts you off if you have not paid your bill. That's more than enough for drinking.

Last time I looked at a motortrend mag, their was an article about DPD, and how the big 3 stepped up and donated/leased/ or some other communistic verbiage about DPD receiving the cars at little or no cost.

Unions and corruption, that's why those things cost more in Detroit.

You can walk around any GM product and see where time/resources are wasted on production.

From the Wall Street Journal, Detroit's "emergency manager" (i.e. the fascist overthrow of local governance in the state of Michigan) is looking to privatized Detroit's water system. After all, why have government perform an essential function, when you can have a capitalist scumbag make a buck off of it.

Here in Baltimore, they went with the lowest bid, the contractor will up the final price. Thus creating the situation where the City, wont be able to obligate the contract. Resulting in a buy-out scenario.

Once the city water service is privatized, Balto. City wont have to honor the water dept's pension obligations, that they can't afford to pay.

... at least that's what I think.

on Detroit's government run water system.

So, answer your own question ww, why is detroit water so expensive?

My guess is, like most government jobs around this country at all levels, the GubbyMonkeys have taken over the slop trough and are takeing care of themselves just fine thank you! Nepotism, crony capitalism, self dealing....the list goes on.

It's not the water that's dried up, its the citizens income that the GubbyMonkeys are supposed to "serve".

So, unless and until this water program is run by the private sector, this falls squarely in the lap of the gubbymonkey scumbag, larding their own pockets with it.

No water? Have a big tall glass of Hope and Change!!

Detroit's gov't have nothing to do with this. For all intensive purposes, Detroit doesn't even have a local government. The governor decided to install an emergency manager, and with the stroke of a pen, he destroyed the entire idea of local representation.

So, to sum up, you're entire post is moot.

Many of my friends and I worked in the automotive industry, and knew the handwriting was on the wall was when a company would find any petty excuse possible to fire a guy coming up on his retirement, and when the company steadily cut back on it's budget for the R&D department.

Isn't this term concocted by the so called people who call them First World?
