Matt yesterday I was looking at the power lines that sit about twenty feet off the ground above my house. Then I thought about the gas line running under my feet, that supplies NG gas to my home.

Hmm, even if the gas line was exposed would it be possible to concentrate enough of the gas for it to ignite from a line that isn't causing sparks?
