There are a variety of things that might drive anybody away from a provider, like bad hygiene or extreme unreliability, but one thing that bothers me is if there is an absence of enthusiasm. I know that this is a job for you ladies, but I need at least the illusion that we are sharing an enjoyable experience. And yet I am also turned off by loud, fake-sounding enthusiasm.

Attitude is everything... no matter what walk of life.
The more contact you have with people the larger the role attitude plays.
Providers have the most personal contact of all, so attitude is just that much more important than in any other vocation/hobby.
The basics--skill, location, rates within my budget etc--are essential of course. As for what makes me want to return again and again, that's tougher to pin down. As was noted above, personality is important, as is the ability to enjoy what she does and have a fun time with her clients. I highly value professionalism, eg she'd never ever think of NCNSing a client except in extreme emergency, is always on time, is prompt and clear in communications etc.
But if I had to pick just one quality--which I guess I do in order to answer your question--it would be honesty. I think that's rare in p4p, and I understand it can be hard to do given that providers are trying to please their clients. But honesty can be delivered with tact and kindness.

It's possible to tell the difference. Some providers are great actors, but there's ways to tell. It can take more than one session though.

Everybody has their own preference, and it generally starts with looks. If I see pictures of somebody I've never met before, and they catch my eye, then I look at rates, location, etc.
For me, the one thing that keeps me going back is a providers personality. I love getting to know somebody on a personal level, in addition to the play time. I've met a few beautiful and awesome ladies out there, and would certainly love spending more time with them, but availability of fun-money isn't always there, so I can't spend as much time as I'd like, or as often as I'd like. If my first time meeting with a provider isn't something I find myself thinking back on with a smile, I really have no reason to go back.
I'm just an average guy. I work my ass off for the things I have in life, and am at the point in my life where I'd much rather choose quality over quantity.

...That statement makes me sound very demanding, I'm not but in P4P unless the provider is experienced with the customer she must pay attention to the customers entire experience if she wants him to return. In more than 20 years of on again off again hobby activity I have enjoyed only 6 providers that I have returned to multiple times & that was because they paid attention to every aspect of their session with me.
I basically agree with MrHuck. If I'm not their entire focus, I'm not coming back.
