I suspect many of those who make their living instilling religious conviction and belief in God, have lost the faith they once had; I really don't think many of them are as sociopathic as to start in such a career without some degree of faith, or their faith has become merely hope in there being a God, and heaven. To understand faith, you must understand how one develops, psychologically, emotionally, cognitively, etc. A good book on the matter is James Fowler, "Stages of Faith." I'm certain that you can find it in the local library you frequent.
