Until this gaze at Carney, I didn't know he was married to Claire Shipman of ABC News. In reviewing this recent puff piece on their family another bizarre observation came to the surface.
http://www.washingtonian.com/mom/features/balancing-act/ Look at the back wall of their kitchen. They have Soviet Union posters hanging on their kitchen wall. I did discover both Carney and Shipman used to work in Moscow and they most likely consider these posters as art, but still, who wallpapers their house with Soviet propaganda? Yea, yea. I must be a McCarthyite. It’s an affirmation of the death of the free press that not a single person granted access to Obama during the 2012 election would ask a tough question, or at least no more challenging than a comedian’s.
It also speaks to Carney’s and by extension the administration’s apparent acceptance that this was perfectly normal although there does seem to be a bit of surprise in his tone. It’s clear this was no gaffe by Carney; that he had previously thought it through. I’m sure Obama was pleased with the situation and to a degree controlled it by their choices of those allowed access, but still. We all knew the “free” press was in the tank for Obama but now even the left is willing to admit it.
The “Free” Press been dead for some time now. It didn't start with this administration but their rush over the cliff certainly accelerated recently. Years from now when these times are put into historical perspective (assuming that ability survives to some degree), they will make note that the loss of a responsible Fourth Estate, no longer willing to perform their function was the main reason for the downfall
