his birth mother spent the money on drugs and I spent the money on him because he had nothing, not even under shirts and underwear.  Big difference.  I cooked for him and provided a safe place to sleep.

When I first read this article it made me mad, and I thought how dare the IRS seize money from children for their parents debt.  It's not the damn children's fault and amounts to slavery.

After further reasoning with this.  This is what I have personally seen Social Security do, if a parent on Social Security dies in the middle of the month they will debit the survivor spouse's Social Security the following month.  No, I don't think it's right.  But what is more important to me is that politicians have blown this completely out of proportion to get my original response.  I now declare they are all fear mongers and I hate them all!

Has anyone else ever heard of a child having to pay their parents debts back to the government?

I have a couple problems with the this scenario.  First, going after children to collect a parents debt.  I understand the need for the government to collect debts owed, but they should stop at the parent.  Secondly, from what I have read thus far, the government does not have to prove that the debt existed.  There have been many instances where the gov't attempts to collect a debt that is older than 10 years.  the documentation to validate the existence of the debt may be non-existent.

While the IRS and SSA shared blame in this problem, the real culprit is congress. Congress submitted and passed legislation that removed the 10 year statute of limitations.  At that point, the agencies have no choice but attempt to comply.  That's your freedom loving congress for you.  I wonder who inserted the language into the appropriations bill?

I have never seen an IRS form that require you to fill out your parents Social Security number. Have you? On the other hand, parents can keep their children on their tax filing if they are not working and are in college. If they work part time or do internship during the summer, they can file their own taxes and check they are claimed as a dependent on their parents taxes and the parents can still deduct education cost they paid for the year.

Question is without having the parents SS#, how is the IRS finding the parents?

I do not believe this story is accurate it sounds bogus and crafted by Faux Paux news. Why is it only on the most untrusted network in the world.

All 24 hr news channels are untrustworthy. When they don’t have anything to report, they create their own stories. They have to fill the void. Ted Turner had a great idea. As more and more got in for the ad money, it all got fucked up beyond repair.

You keep more of you brain cells, if you don’t watch

It seems to be happening to children that left home at 16 and step-fathers continued to cash Social Security benefits from a real parent.  This is all kinds of fucked up.  Apparently a line was put in the Farm bill in 2008 by a republican congressman Pratt.

I hope I never get anything in the mail, I was a temporary guardian for a child for 2 years.  His father deceased, his grandmother too old, and his real mother abandoned him but he did try to live with her a couple of times while with me and always called me to pick him up. :(  I kept a spreadsheet of how every dollar was spent, I knew them government sombitches may want to come back one day.

Step-sons and step-daugters cannot be held responsible for a step-fathers actions whatsoever even if they were legally adopted.

Another Rupert Murdoch owned media outlet. Daily mail is considered tabloid in UK.

You do realize Daily Mail UK is owned by News Corp just like Faux news, right

that the government is going to squeeze the 99% to death before they realize we have no money, we are just surviving.  Did you know that insurance will cost me $6000 a year with a $12500 deductible.  What a load of crock of shit deal that is.  I intend on my accountant making me break even with the IRS so they can't ever get anything from me.  But I sure as hell don't want them coming after my daughter when I am dead and gone.

Be truthful. I worked on implementing ACA rates for a state so I do have clue as to how the subsidy is calculated.

Also, it is very dumb to say the government is this and that because you elected or help elect them. In essence if the government is fucked up so are you.

Collecting government funds?

I have to ask, isn't being a legal guardian(even for the right reasons) the same thing?

The government is paying you to take care of a child

I ended up taking care of him because his father died of diabetes a 40 years old after first losing both his legs.  His father was very sick and unable to work, his child was already on his Social Security before he died.  Which I will tell you, it wasn't very much.  I think it was around $450 a month.  His crack/meth head mom gave birth to him and dumped him at her elderly mom's house after the father passed.  She would show up on "check day" to get his money.  When I picked him up, everything he owned was in 1 box.  He still loved her, is what is so fucked up.  She would show up at my house on check day, and he would give her some of his money.  He even tried to live with her again and they were sleeping in hotels.  And when she couldn't afford a hotel, they would sleep in the taxi cab she drove.  Once I picked him up from a hotel where she abandoned him and they threw him.  All his clothes were stolen.

You try to feed and clothe a growing teenage boy with $450 a month and see how that works out for you!  By the way, he is married now with a baby.  And he fucking takes care of his still, no good mama.

That doesn't take away from the fact you helped this child out. I was pointing out the fact you received a government subsidy to care for a child.

Where do those government funds come from?

a child that desperately needed a stable home and we found him one that environment.  He went on to live with a youth pastor and finished high school.

2nd question, it's paid by Americans for when we truly need it, children, disabled, elderly, veterans...

in the sense you were solving, and not creating a problem.

From a fiscal perspective. What's the difference in paying you to care for the child, versus paying his birth mother to care for the child?

I was speaking as if my only goal is to lower your tax bill.

His father was Hispanic and came to America on a green card and became a legal citizen the right way.  His mother was a piece of trash white woman and his father raised him until he died.  His father had plenty of pills for his terminal disease, but they didn't work for the pain.  So his father smoked weed, and sold his pills that were paid for by (us) Medicaid so they could get by.  Which brings us to how many children are brought into this world by hustling parents, through no fault of their own they are here.  And that is where I stepped in.  His mother saw that I was clean but she couldn't and wouldn't ever even try.  He actually just kicked her out of his home because she is fucked up on pills, and he is a working, productive member of society with a baby and working productive wife.  They are on no support and he hasn't been since he graduated high school.  He is 27 now and pays taxes.  And also, I never let him on food stamps when he was with me, but he was on Medicaid.  He had stomach aches a lot, ulcers from worrying.

Why should any child ever have to worry?  If taxpayers want to be mad at anyone, maybe they should be re-incarnated into the next life in a similar situation of no fault fucked up deal.

I'm talking taxes, and stating the fact nobody wants to pay taxes.

...isn't that why America is a country?
