That should make everyone safe

How do you stop a mass shooting event?

Well, if you witnessed a mass shooting happen, what would you do? You'd call the police. Why do you call the police? Because the police have guns. What if you had a gun? Couldn't you stop a mass shooting, without waiting for the cops to show up?

Someone with a gun, or even a knife, can kill a half a dozen people in 30 seconds. Average police response time is 11 minutes.

So how do you stop a mass shooting event? Well, we could look at how a mass shooting was stopped at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia.

We could also look at how the mass shooting was stopped at the Clackamas Town Center mall in Portland, Oregon.

Or we could even look at how this mass shooting in Oklahoma City was entirely prevented by an armed citizen.

As I understand it, there is very strict gun control rules on military bases. There's strict gun control rules on all federal gov't property, but it seems absurd to the extreme that US soldiers, solders, for Christ's sake, who one presumes have some training on how to use firearms, are not armed on US military bases. We trust these men and women to protect the country, but we don't allow them to protect themselves on their own army bases?

I can understand why we wouldn't want civilians entering military bases with firearms. For the life of me, I can't understand why we don't let US soldiers carry firearms on their own military bases.

on the premise that they might misuse them. For fucks sake, they are already control of the GD plane, they don't need a gun to kill themselves and the passengers, but they might be able to save them if they are armed.

Some things just don't make a bit of sense.

remember them held hostage in Gwinnett county by an unstable man that was losing his home in foreclosure?  The firefighters responded first to the 911 call and were trapped, held hostage by a coward that wanted a news story and too coward to kill himself.

If the firefighters had been allowed to carry, it could have ended a lot better.

Guns are necessary for protection from those that don't value life as sacred.

I would rather take my chances on a jury of 12 peers.

Do you know what happens when your gun on an airplane at 32,000 feet? Pilot fires at the terrorist and he and his cohorts go ape shit! What a great idea? Priceless.

Brilliant idea shit head.

so the shooter can be annihilated before he pulls the trigger.

I am with the NRA on this. Don’t I have right to protect myself by everyone in my family have an automatic weapon. I am going also going to park a Tank in front of my house as soon as it becomes available to the public.

I also believe ever street and neighbor hood should have automatic weapons so should all of the neighbor hood watches, schools, colleges. Should give everyone a gun before they enter a sporting arena, restaurants or a club. It should be distributed free of charge to anyone who doesn’t have weapon.

but since AF mangles the English language so badly, let me clarify for you. This was our village idiot's weak attempt at sarcasm, I know it's tough to tell considering how stupid his usual posts are, but trust me. That's what he was going for, but as usual he missed the mark by a mile. Good thing he doesn't have an automatic weapon, he'd most likely kill a dozen innocent bystanders before shooting himself in the foot.

Your stupidity is only superseded by your ignorance and your belief your ignorance is knowledge. What the hell they teach you at LSU?

Just out of curiosity, is there even one issue where you side with the evil right?

and please there is no reason in the world for you to TRY to sound stupid. You do just fine in that regard without trying.

"Ignorance is bliss", then af is one of the happiest people on earth.

Thank You
2014 = 28

I would encourage that society focus on producing less idiots who always do dumb things and say the stupidest possible things every day

executive orders that generally prohibit military personnel other than military police from carrying on military bases. The DOD under both presidents apparently studied the problem and concluded that the risks from allowing unfettered carry outweighed the benefits.

Following the Hassan shooting and the Washington naval yard shooting, the wisdom of these polices was called to question. But neither Mr. Obama nor the DOD saw reason to change the policy.

Now let’s look at some of the flaws in your assumptions. Yes, it presumably is true that military personnel receive firearms training and I would certainly trust them far more than some Texas yokel who now can get a concealed carry permit after just a few hours of training. But knowing how to use a gun and knowing how to use a gun in an urban setting where a mass shooting is taking place are two very different things.

Willy,  you are simply assuming that the mass shooter is wearing a black hat and the good soldiers wear white hats – so it is easy to shoot the bad guy.

But it rarely is that clean in the real world.  Think of it this way. Soldier 1 sees the mass shooter and starts shooting at him. Soldier 2 arrives and sees soldier 1 shooting at the bad guy – but he does not know who is the bad guy, so he fires at Soldier 1. Soldier 3 arrives and does identify the bad guy and starts shooting at him –but the bad guy has moved in front of a kindergarten room and the bullets go through the wall and hit the little kids.

See the problem? The military has made the judgment that the military police and other LE should be the ones to handle mass shootings on the base, not other military personnel. They presumably have been trained in how to handle this.

Sometimes that policy will backfire; sometimes it will prevent unnecessary deaths.
But, even if you disagree with it, you should at least acknowledge that it is a reasonable policy

Gun control advocates often bring up this subject. In your scenario, you say Soldier 1 opens fire on Solder 2. Solder 3 fires upon Solder 1 to stop him. Soldier 4 mistakes Solder 3 for Soldier 1 and more people end up getting killed.

This is what I like to call the "crossfire myth". I'm not going to say that such a thing can't happen, but typically, it only happens in Hollywood.

Yes, really. In the real world, people tend to have a pretty universal reaction when they're fired upon. They panic and run in the other direction.

Here is surveillance video (from several angles) of two people attempting to rob an internet cafe. One robber is armed with a gun, and the other, I believe, is armed with a baseball bat. An old man (wearing old man shorts!) pulls his concealed carry piece out and fires upon the robbers. Keep in mind that the robbers are armed. Watch closely what the robbers do when they're fired upon.

Maybe that was just dumb luck, right? Wrong. Here is surveillance video of an attempted car jacking.  35 seconds into the video, the man gets in his car, and an armed man runs up trying to car jack him. Watch the car jacker's behavior when the man in the car fires at him.

Here is surveillance video of 4 armed men attempting a home invasion. The home owner fires upon them. Watch what the home invaders do.

Here is surveillance video of an attempted armed robbery of a convenience store in Texas. Watch what the robbers do when they're fired upon.

Here is surveillance video of an attempted robbery of a jewelry store. The robbers pretend to be customers for the first minute and 15 seconds of the video. This case, the clerk was very lucky that he lived. The clerk retrieves a firearm, and fires upon the robbers. Watch what the robbers do.

This last video is just for yucks. No one gets shot in this video, but watch to find out who (literally) gets his ass kicked.

I'm not surprised that the Clinton administration would come to the conclusion that our own soldiers shouldn't be allowed to protect and defend their own lives, when we trust these people to protect our country. The concept of self-defense seemed as if it was wholly foreign to them.
