I'd add, go read Maggie McNeill's blog, "The Honest Courtesan."  She was employed by, and then ran, an agency operation in New Orleans, and she's an advocate for sex workers' rights.  A great source of information about how to run an ethical, above-board agency that treats the women and the clients well.  You can find her by Googling the blog (it's a Wordpress blog).

...economic need is a reason why many become sex workers. Now, once a sex worker's basic economic needs are met, I'm aware of many sex workers whose income puts them into the 'affluent' level of wage earners and are in the 6 figure level of income. I understand that TED Talks are limited to around 18 minutes so Ms. Mac's talk had to focus mainly on her topic, 'What Laws do Sex Workers Want' but it would be very interesting if this presenter would expound on the role of Sex Work in U.S. society and how this could make a very attractive career choice for many women and thhe potential income and liberal lifestyle a woman could live as a result. Ms. Mac comes across as a very likable and credible spokesperson...and brave.
