I always believed that Inara was portrayed in a positive style with an elegant demeanor.
You know how usually in movies you only see kind of silly jerks with hookers, and it's usually just there to play up a negative aspect of the character?
Wonder if there are any good examples of johns or escorts portrayed in a positive way in movies or TV? Or even in a fun way, if it's a comedy or something. Or a likable character who is into this scene. One example is that show Hung, though by making it a funny guy it changes it a bit naturally.
Maybe Pretty Woman? I haven't seen that one oddly
but I think the most sympathetic and respectful portrayal of a provider I can recall was from the late and lamented TV series, China Beach.

Another "Hooker With a Heart of Gold" flick but so much better than the execrable, Pretty Woman(1990). A light hearted film starring the very appealing Melina Mercouri. "Certified Fresh"-88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Not to be confused with the American show Satisfaction. The Aussie one is about a brother and a High-end escort. Really well written and all about the characters.

There was an episode where a college coed who'd been escorting was murdered. Lenny Briscoe interviewing an middle-aged guy who had been one of her clients. The guy was innocent, but told Lenny that she was a nice girl, she took him to the MOMA and taught him about Art and anything he could do to help find the perp, just let him know.
Funny line from the scene where Lenny asked the guy, "why don't you find a nice widow instead of going to a hooker". Guy answered, "OK so 50 year old widow or 20 year old coed?....gee let me think". Classic

I've been told I remind some of Penny and I love the show. So anyways,
On one episode they're trying to cheer the one friend Howard up and they're in Vegas. A hooker (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe who looks sexy and classy in the scene but hard for her not to) walks in and the end up hiring her and asking her to be jewish and sleep with Howard. When he starts talking to her and sort of "finds out" out he says something like "So you guys paid for a hooker for me?!?!" dramtic pause "You guys are AWESOME!" so silly.
That was a good episode of BBT and since I've always liked Jodi Lyn O'Keefe it was nice to see her playing a hooker.
...it's not funny in any way, but she is portrayed as a real person with a lot going for her. It's been 40 years, but as I recall, as the plot gets more complicated, she's the only clear-thinking person in the movie. Have to go back and watch it again and dredge up some teen hormone memories.
