I love to spend hours on East Calhoun. Sun all day long and the views are typically pretty nice That and the food place is just a short walk to the north for refreshments.
If it's to relax, I'm a big fan of Lake Harriet and Lake of the Isles. Calhoun is fun for people watching, but on many days it tends to be full of testosterone, if you know what I mean. Minnetonka is a great lake to be boating on, but I'm not familiar with much in the way of good public beaches. Perhaps someone else has a suggestion there?
Not always with excess testosterone. Plenty of beautiful women. But it's also the closest for me. Lake of the Isles is my choice if I'm out for a leisurely stroll or jog. So much more laid back and seemingly friendlier people.
Anyone with an opinion of Nokomis? Haven't ventured that way...

Why?
Because it's in Hawaii!

...20 - 30 yards out from shore so you can take a lounger out, plunk it in the water and chill while partially submerged and sippin' on cool ones.
are the best. Miles upon miles upon miles of unspoiled coastline. Oh, you were talking about Minneapolis. I suppose Lake Calhoun, because every time I walk my dog there, some hot chick with another dog wants to know if my dog wants to be her dog's friend. And then I have an opportunity to make a friend.
