P411 claims to destroy your identifying information after you are approved. I see no reason why they would not.

It is a Canadian company - so the Canadians would have to want to help the US to get at the potentially non-existent records. IIRC, most forms of adult entertainment are legal for our enlightened neighbors to the north.

Call it paranoia if you will, but with the recent shutdown  and the mention of P411 in the USA Today, I have been a little apprehensive about having a DateCheck membership.

The things that worry me is that I have several references on DateCheck, as well as used my personal credit card (real name, address, etc) to pay for my membership.

If the site was to be targeted and shutdown like the shutdown site, can members face any legal problems for having a membership with references?

I would think simply having a membership to a reference site is not illegal, but I am not a legal professional.

Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Keep in mind.... I'm not saying P411 was shutdown.  I mentioned another website in my post that was shutdown on the west coast, but I guess that site is not allowed to be mentioned and the mods edited my post.

So I'll jump in just to see if someone will tell me I'm full of shit and don't know what I'm talking about.  (They'll most likely be correct. 8o)

But anyhoo:

Constitutionally speaking, I don't think LE could make a very strong case that just asking an organization to list you as someone who clears certain (minimum) levels of security makes you a criminal.

But that doesn't mean that some hot-shot federal attorney won't some day try to build a case up against the various screening agencies.  It is a sad fact that many pols and LE types use their authority to bully otherwise legal organizations or individuals whom they think they can build up a case against even if eventually the case is tossed out.

They are affecting public policy this way, and it ought to be illegal, but then again who has millions of dollars to try and stop them?

The papers and TV news always go along for the ride.

I think, but am not sure, that the computers for these agencies are not in the US, so that would definitely make it hard for LE to build a case.

But, so far, so good.  No one yet has been burned by joining a screening agency.  If they do, at least know that you'll have lots of company.

(still not a lawyer)

I don't believe the mere membership of such a site is illegal, if that is all you are asking.

The feds closed down that other hooker site that you were inferring, because it was alleged that there were girls who were under 18 who were advertising there, and the owner of that site was involved in some kind of money laundering as well, both are no-no's at the federal level.  Whether or not that story is true, who knows.  In any event, it was the owners of that site who got in trouble, not the members of that site, at least as far as I know.

It would be more prudent for you to not give these websites your real name in the first place.  A date-check membership does not require you to provide your real name if you pay by money order.  Unlike P411 who requires you to provide your name and other personal identifying information, with an assurance that you can trust them.  I trust nobody, so I use date check, not P411.
