END OF MESSAGE

Ms. Chayse is correct that since the early 90s the accepted "truth" has been that lambskin condoms are an effective barrier to sperm, but are too permeable to effectively prevent the spread of infection. A recent article in the Slate online magazine suggests that wisdom needs to be revisited. The third chapter discusses how the testing methods used to discredit lambskin 25 years ago greatly over-exaggerated how much semen men ejaculate, how long condoms remain in contact with genitals after ejaculation, how many times men continue to thrust after ejaculation, and what concentration of the virus would be found in the semen of an infected male. The article suggests that in real life conditions lambskin could be an effective barrier against HIV and other STIs. At least one informed individual is quoted in the article as endorsing the use of lambskin enthusiastically.

I'm not suggesting anyone start using lambskin. I don't plan to and don't expect any of the women I see would let me in any case. But chapter four discusses current research to develop new condoms that more closely replicate the feel of lambskin. I for one hope most fervently that research bears fruit in the near future because, important and necessary as condoms are, latex condoms suck. I'd love to try something better before age forces me out of the market.

Yes, they're still made.  Trojan makes them, maybe there's others.

...they're not appropriate attire for hobbydom or noncommittal relationships.
