I have found that dedicating one web browser to only hobbying helps.

It's amazing how social media really invades your privacy. I was on FB the other day and as I was scrolling down I got to the spot that shows people you may know. And to my surprise, there were two providers on there with their civi FB pages. How much information are they really pulling from our phones and emails??

I did learn something from twitter that I would like to share. There is an AP called White Pages ID. Download it and it will let you know who's calling. And better yet, shows you how you need to protect your phone ID so people can not find out more information about you.

Get it a lot myself. I'm FB friends with someone I used to see. Sometimes its from pictures too that circulate around and get intwiined with what you look at and associate with. Turns out were all just people after all

If you don't keep your hobby-related browsing separate from your civvie-life browsing. Facebook and other software can figure out links between the two and then things like what you just described can happen, particularly if the providers are not careful to separate their provider identities from their civvie ones.

Firefox on private browsing, Hushmail account.
Hobby smart.

I never even really thought too much about it; it just seemed like a good idea, so I do it.  Now, I am really happy I did...

THAT BEING SAID:

Our secrets are out.  OMG, don't sext!!!  Yeah?  Well, so many people have so much shit in their background, that I don't think people have the CAPACITY to care much about stupid shit we all do.  It's the same shit other people do.

I gave up on worrying over that, too.  I just decided that everyone knows everything and that I will just live my life unashamed.

FB has suggested ladies I know from "here", but obviously I did not click on the link. I powered up my phone, and removed synchronization with my computer and all online destinations.

I'm now storing ALL of my numbers and contacts as a spreadsheet on an old laptop with no Bluetooth nor WiFi built in. I update it when a new contract is added on my phone.

FB, Google, Microsoft, plus Apple all mine your computer for numbers, email, addresses, and obviously pictures; storing the data in the "cloud" seem like the best way to go if something should happen to your computer.   But you're agreeing to invite them to copy ALL of your contacts. Don't believe me? Read through the initial EULA.

End of rant / message.
