I think it would be a great if TER did away with aliases completely. All they do is give haters a way to cause trouble and not be held accountable for their bile. I’m really fed up with the nasty, underhanded comments posted with aliases. If you don’t have the balls to accept the consequences of your words then don’t post them.
I know there are some legitimate reasons to use an alias but it seems to be the exception not the rule and I think they should just go away or the moderator should flip the haters. What do you think?

Im not a fan either, have never used one, and don't see a need for one. If you don't have the balls to say something then just don't say it.

If the board is too tough and you don't have the balls to handle it, try logging onto Disney or Cosmopolitan.

And what is a "hater"? Are you a teen?

And you're a pussy. You've got tough words and hide behind an alias like the pussy you are.
I really don't give a damn what anyone says. But there is nothing worse than an insecure pussy hiding behind an alias acting like you have some balls.

how should TER handle the exceptions if they completely do away with aliases. Of course they are abused. I used to post with my real TER handle, and I've close to 30 reviews. Last December, I pissed off someone by being too honest and  he called me on cell phone and threatened to report me to Blacklist and completely devastate my hobbying life. A provider gave it to him. She was subsequently banned.

Turns out that I'm still happily hobbying and haven't had single issue with finding a provider.  BUT....and its a huge BUT...I don't want to deal with the drama by using my real handle, and completely fly under the radar...

This is my hobby dude...NOT my career. Thoughts?

I don't need anyone finding out who I am or my real handle!   :)

In fact, TER recently implemented aliases for reviews.

Like you said, there are legitimate reasons to use aliases, probably more than you realize; then why would TER eliminate that feature.

is if TER does away with aliases, people will STOP posting altogether. And the whole community will slowly die.

It is to TER's benefit to have added another level of anonymity to a member, which I'd rather not elaborate.

Note that, in addition to aliases for board posts and reviews, you can remove yourself from the top reviewer and top poster lists, and from the whitelist. Your anonymity can be complete.

A " legitimate " reason to me is if your post has any chance of revealing your personal info or if you feel you need to post sensitive info about about someone.  Using an alias so you can post like an asshole is not a "legitimate" reason imho.

Since you agree that there are legitimate reasons to use aliases, so you disagree with the OP that TER should do away with aliases completely. Of course "posting like an asshole" is bad, but how do we decide what is bad? I think there are rules for that.

No.  I agree with the op.  The rules are not working.

As far as I know, repeat offenders can have their aliases flipped, can be moderated or even banned. If a member continues to post with an alias, perhaps he did not violate any rules.

One may not like the content of a post, but that does not mean the poster violates any rules.

there are legitimate reasons to use aliases.  A lot of good info is shared that way.  The problem is more about trolls than aliases.  Discipline trolls, not aliases...

It seems as if most post these days are aliases.  I agree with you.

That would defeat the purpose of shilling and fawning in the first place.

you obviously need a dictionary as it is obvious you do not know the definition of shilling. However,  why do I get the feeling you hide behind an alias because you write minis for every agency babe as soon [ sometimes even before ..opps] she arrives on the scene.   Or is it just we have an honest but different desire for the board...you want a stag party...I want an orgy !   At any rate..I fear you might be the future of the board...not me.  This I sadly concede.....Guys posting 411s...asking about BP babes...attacking each other...never writing reviews or sincerly trying to help one another or encouage the ladies....you know...a real sausage fest.

Given what happened with folks being outed to LE folks have to use aliases. Things have been for ever changed.

Please give me some examples of the "hate" posts. I don't remember seeing any lately. There have been disagreements, some posts with sarcasm, but hate?
