Wow!!!! Xoxox likewise!

If you don't like the weather here, just wait a minute, it'll change. That is very true all over New England. Snow in may? Yep. 80 degrees on Halloween? Yep. However a safe guideline is generally that you'll want a heavier jacket October to April if you are from away. Don't be surprised to see locals still wearing shorts with their winter boots and LL Bean winter parkas in mid January in 3 feet of snow. It can take some getting used to but the folks here are very hearty and handle the crazy weather well.
Essentials you will want: Thermal leggings (not joking), solid winter boots that are warm and skid proof for navigating icy sidewalks and streets, heavy socks, multiple ice scrapers for when they break, good gloves, friends who enjoy outdoor winter sports to enjoy your free time with, studded tires or 4x4, a bag of Kitty litter in the trunk should you ever get stuck, and AAA.

Enjoy!

+1 on the multiple ice scrapers
+1 on kitty litter
Make sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid. Get one that says it works down to -20 or colder.

Thankyou! Very useful information! Especially the kitty litter! Where cabin get some studded tires near Hamden?

Try a Tire Warehouse or Townfair Tires type of place. I'm not sure what is in your area. Google may help or a local poster could chime in.

Now is a good time to get a flu shot.

After our lovely fall leaves have fallen watch for slippery leaves on the sidewalks after rain.

Winter outcalls outdoors may lead to frostbite (AKA Nippy Nipples).

Do not go to the stores just before a storm expecting to find any milk or bread.

Always have a few evenings' worth of wine on hand, just in case.

But most important aspect of the winters in New England is finding good friends and a fireplace.

Enjoy!
