Yeah, same issues here.  I'm up for the week on business and staying in Bloomington last night and tonight.  Stupidly high prices compared to what I normally pay at any of the Hilton/Embassy/Doubletree properties!

Although if you think this is bad - check out prices in Vegas during CES week.  4x higher or worse!

So...I'm checking out the prices in my area, and they are like...ridiculous!  Hotels in Bloomington are sold out or DOUBLE and TRIPLE their prices.  When I googled "events"  it turns out there is a comic convention in bloomington for the next 3 days.

I really HATE that they can jack up the prices that much.  It really takes advantage of those who just want to attend an event and have some fun.   There should be a law!

And the irony of that statement did not escape me.

Of course, it applies to other transactions besides hotels. ;)

On hotels, it can work in your favor sometimes. For example, I'm finding that hotel rates for Dallas are a lot less now than this past Spring.  I wonder why?   Hmmm... temps in the 70s this Spring, and 100+ now.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it?   :)

I don't think that's accurate.

... Bloomington this week and next, including the Senior Games this week and Aquatennial next week. July is a busy month for hotels in the area... one of the best months of the year in Minnesota!

Was speaking comic conventions in specifics which was mentioned by the OP and if they're telling you that's the reason for the jacked up rates, it's incorrect and so you can actually use that as leverage to get a local discounted rate :) That's what I do in Chicago and it does work most of the time.

I don't think it was the hotel saying that, unless I didn't read the OP correctly.

Yes, there's lots of tricks to get discounted rates!  But they don't work, even in Chicago, when the hotels are full. :(

And he told me that there were several events going on in the area.  Rooms around here are at a premium.  Didn't meant to post anything that wasn't accurate....The general idea was simply that this week the prices seemed to go up rather obscenely and (imho..greedily) because there is a high demand

I smell an opportunity when I see it.  Only one star on Travelocity...so far...but 9 out of 10 outcall providers say they have visited worse places.  No ID needed.  Truly a no-tell-motel but it's a full flight of stairs above being a flop house.

Just be careful which towels you use.  I only do laundry once a week.

Didn't Talon see someone there once?

And with his ATF so we can't go into details cause he keeps that hush hush don't ya know.  ;-)

But with so much traffic going through I'm sure it hard to keep track!

10% of your guests say it is the worst place to which they have ever been. :D

Don't let the word "Bates" detract from your stay.  No matter what Vorlon says it's a screaming good time.  Guaranteed

I was wondering what's going on in town! I booked my hotel almost a month ago and got an okay (but not fabulous) price. I looked at hotel prices for the Twin Cities online this week just out of curiosity and noticed that they were sky high too! I was wondering what was going on in town-I really need to start checking that shit out in advance! lol :)
