Case was 2009.  She arrived at his residence, he offered her a drink & returned with a 8" kitchen knife, assaulted her & demanded her money.  She maced him, broke free & ran.  She called the Police from outside.  Because it was an assault & attempted robbery, not a sexual assault, the victim's name was released to the press.  Despite the AG's request, the media published her name.  Resume, college standing, etc.  Nice.

The perp was arrested...  long rap sheet... & his story that she assaulted him was not believed.  The victim threatened to recant her complaint...  to try to get the story out of the press which didn't work.  Looks great for a member of the bar to be giving false statements...   No information on the repercussions for her.

At the time of the incident, the Gal had passed the Mass Bar & results of her RI exam were pending.  I have been able to find her listed at a law firm in another state; not sure of her position or how currant the listing is.  Still not sure of the repercussions were in this case

I was not aware of that case cited in footnote 15:

People vs. Johnson

It seems to allow more or less the kind of sex for pay that we engage in.

It certainly is an ironically titled case.

a few years ago.  A grad student had worked her way through school, was assaulted & robbed.  She called the Police where it was discovered she was a law grad & about to take the bar exam.  I don't recall that they caught the perp but if they did it was not advertised widely.  Her situation made the news & caused her grief in her attempt to take the exam.
There have been a lot of articles about sugar baby / sugar daddy arrangements & that they may be skirting the law.  The oldest profession will never go away & attempts to outlaw it will never be 100% successful.
Hell, since my ex only married me to solve her financial crisis...  cheated behind my back & gave just enough sex to lead me on until the money ran out...  Isn't that prostitution?   Better to pay by the hour.

which means essentially to corrupt or degrade some kind of activity.

The sex work, for want of a better term, that the providers we know practice does anything but corrupt or degrade.  They offer sexual pleasure for a stated rate and an honest effort to please, at least in most cases.

Shows how political influence can cause our language to become topsy-turvy.

There was a article in Cosmo about 2 months ago, in which it basically glamorized being a sugar baby. It had stories from women who were in SB/SD relationships to pay for college, get a new car, apartment paid for, etc. Every single one of these women claimed it was not the same as prostitution because "they actually liked the guy, and were able to see pictures beforehand, and decide whether they wanted to move forward with the relationship sexually or not"….so they were not escorting or prostituting themselves. In my opinion, it is the same thing..just on a different level.
