You seem to be suggesting that a schizophrenic is automatically dangerous, but this is not the case. My wife had schizophrenia, and it was well controlled by medication, although she found the side effects hard to tolerate. I know another schizophrenic who is working her way through college after being abandoned by her ultra-religious parents. She is certainly a danger to no one.

It is true that schizophrenia can induce delusions that might cause some risk, but it is really these specific schizophrenic delusions that are the danger. A client that takes their medication for schizophrenia is probably safer than an average client.

We don't know all the details, but she obviously felt threatened by this person.  Why not find out all the facts first before you express your PC bullshit.

Truth is that you are right ,
We don't have the second side of the story ,
But I am basing my opinion on her interpretation
Of the event that took place .

Why take the chance ,
If a client seems strange or Ultra strange
My recommendation would also be to avoid them .
No reason to play a Russian Roulette. 300 $ not worth the risk.

But his mental illness is out of control right now and coupled with suicidal thoughts...he doesn't need a provider right now he needs a doctor.

Personally, I would not hesitate to see someone with a mental illness.

But this guy was acting out apparently.  And his schizophrenia was a part of his problems.  Even providers who have been around mental illness would see this behavior a red flag.

But thank you, zelig, for increasing awareness about schizophrenia.  Good for you.

Many are even safer than regular everyday people.

That being said, if a lady is uncomfortable with anything about a client, it's always good to pass if her level of understanding causes her to be frightened.

What I WILL say is, if the client is suicidal, that is dangerous. I always felt that if someone is suicidal, or really planning suicide, they've got nothing to lose if they hurt another person - they're going to die anyway, right? (In their head.)

I would pass on that account alone, and direct them to a suicide hotline, as well as insist they visit their nearest emergency room. We are not equipped to save someone from killing themselves. Anybody who expects us to save them is probably not in a position to be in a room alone with us.

I guess maybe I was unable to say it as "nicely" as I wanted to. lol

Did you not notice she also said "border line suicidal"???

I've got a great idea, YOU go to an environment controlled by someone not only with suicidal thoughts, but who outweighs you by a hundred pounds and go get naked with him.

Sometimes it's really tough to tell the difference between political correctness and stupidity, and sometimes I suppose it's because there is no real difference. I suspect this is one of those cases. What a maroon.

Sorry to be blunt, but there's not a lot of room to be "politically correct" here. If she didn't feel safe, she didn't feel safe. Speaking as a male here, I'm very aware that providers don't always feel safe around us clients. They are meeting with a stranger, who could be LEO, a violent psychopath, or just a normal dude. Yeah, we have to worry too. Any excursion could get us into a sting, could get us mugged, or we might get a happy ending, but put yourself in her shoes for a minute. Most men are stronger than a woman. There are exceptions, but you know what I mean. I try to do everything I can to put my providers at ease, but if they get a bad vibe, they get a bad vibe. I understand it. I may be disappointed, but I get it. Id do the same thing. I don't want to see anyone hurt.
