I suggested *exactly* that to someone today and received some very ugly pushback! Sometimes a girl can't win ;)

I have about 10 reviews none real recent and I have been only moderately active in the past couple years. I have maintained VIP so haven't been compelled to write reviews recently unless for  an over the top experience. I have come across a massage provider with excellent reviews that I am most interested in seeing. Her scheduler (well known) has asked for the usual "recent providers that can vouch for me" (which could be a stretch due to the timing) OR linkedin profile or Facebook page. I have both but am unsure how wise it would be to provide either or both. I am inclined to provide TER VIP info and see if that might get the job done. Any thoughts or input on the potential cons or pros of providing linkedin or Facebook info if I am pressed for it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Although it can be frustrating, once you get through the process, you don't have to worry about it, again.  As for sending that info, don't do it if you aren't comfortable.  Instead, start with known providers that have less stringent screening.  Then, you'll have a reference :)

Hope this helps,
TL

It is a difficult concept when the providers remain anonymous while asking for that level of disclosure. It is a conundrum. I do land on the side of the providers but wish there was a better way.

Me too! I always feel bad for the guy giving their information out. I have to remind myself that it's to keep me safe. But would you really want to see a provider that doesn't do screenings?

if there isn't another way to check you out (no references), we have to settle, too.  What would you suggest?

I really would like to hear other ideas.

I was in the same boat about a month ago, except I am new to the hobby and had no references at all.  I was probably working with the same scheduler you are working with.  Ultimately, I opted to sign up on P411 because I though my information would be safer with them than the scheduler.  My P411 account has since sufficed for verification.  If signing up for P411 is an option, I would recommend that.

I will say that now that I have worked with the scheduler, I trust her enough to send her a link to my linkedin page.  But that is a personal decision based on my own comfort level.  The advice I previously got was to not forward that information to anyone and go with P411 instead.

I don't have a VIP account or else I would PM you the name of a well known and highly reviewed massage provider who did not ask me for verification.

I am not sure why one would ask for LinkedIn profile or Facebook page alone since either can be faked.
However, combined with other info, both would be helpful in verification.

Assuming that the provider has account on TER, just ask her to send you a mail in TER inbox and you respond back. This has worked for me in the past, especially when I was out of town and couldn't provide any local provider references.

I've been a member for some years and found it quite useful.  I would not hand out a LinkedIn or Facebook id.  Keeping your real identity and your hobby identity separate is a wise idea.
