Bourbon St can be lots of fun, but it can also be really obnoxious. It depends on what kind of "action" you're looking for.
I have friends who work on Bourbon street, and it really depends on which club you go to. There's a blog out there called New Orleans Strip Club Review (or something to that effect). Maybe check that?
