Crimes in Las Vegas

Want to know how easy it is to get charged with a SERIOUS crime in Nevada? Commit even the lowest level felony crime (class E) like shoplifting or hitting someone, and you are now chargeable under the Burglary act (Class B (5-15 years in prison). NO probation. The legislature passed a law that says ANY felony committed inside (not in the great outdoors) is also a burglary and can be charged at the discretion of the Prosecutor.  Do you know when he charges that?---when you refuse to plead guilty to the minor offense. It's a running joke amongst lawyers, judges and prosecutors in Las Vegas.
They totally redefined what burglary means to a definition no one would think of.  Next thing you know they will decide that spitting on the sidewalk meets the definition of rape.
I post this just to say look out all you tourists and people who live in Vegas, this State is bizarre!

..is to confine your vices to the "acceptable" ones.  Gambling and booze for sure (although ABOLUTELY DO NOT drink and drive), drugs in moderation (although try to have a buddy with you who is the designated sober person for your group for that night), and hobbying with responsible professional (= reasonably well-rated on TER) providers.

As for anything beyond that:  It's best to just not f--- around.  There's too much of a "combustible" environment in Vegas.  Cops are always concerned that any given situation could get out of hand, so they are always going to act first and ask questions later.

Ask any reasonably young local who has actually grown up in Vegas in recent years.  They will all tell you the same thing.  A lot of kids/teenagers come from one parent families, or even two parent families, where there is no adult supervision of the kids for hours at a time.  It's the perfect storm paving the way for kids to get into all kinds of trouble.  Three kids hanging out in a park at midnight, with no booze, weed, or smokes lying around will still get tremendous amounts of attention from the local cops.  All one of those kids has to do is look at the cop cross-eyed and the cuffs go on.  It's just the way it is in Vegas, nothing you can do about it other than be aware and act accordingly.

The thing to do when nabbed for picking your nose and being charged for a felony is to fight it in court, not give in.

Now the DA has to go through with a trial, and it takes only one person our of (12?) to decided that they aren't going to throw someone's ass in jail for a minor thing, guilty or not.

Yes, most people will probably go the way of pleading guilty and paying a fine; but these days that comes with so much baggage in terms of landing a job, etc., I hope a lot of people will challenge this very unconstitutional trend.

(still not a lawyer)

I was in Las Vegas last month and watched a friend of mine get a ticket for jay walking, if you refuse to sign the ticket they take you to jail.

You are guilty of promotting prostitution, no disclaimer protects you from that.  No, go turn yourself in in Las Vegas so you don't get charged for burglary since you probably access TER indoors.
