Food cravings...must try dishes

I love to try new food but I've been craving sushi and my sweet tooth is acting up. Is there anyplace here I can get great  sushi or dessert downtown. Beef ribs are also something I'm interested in having its been a while. How is the barbecue here? No pork please. Restaurant options for other fab meals would also be appreciated.
Hope you had a lovely long weekend!

Try this for BBQ.  Outside the norm of what most people think when they hear the phrase "BBQ", but I highly recommend this.  They have two locations in Chicago.  I have been to both and they are both great.

Gyu-kaku Japanese BBQ

210 E Ohio St
Chicago IL 60611
(312) 266-8929

1364 W. Randolph St.
Chicago, IL 60607
(312) 982-2840

To be clear, I am NOT in any way connected to this place.  I just really, really love it there.

Bon appetite!

sushi dokku, green street smoked meats is the best bbq i've had, are you from houston? i've had Goode Co. and I like Green St is way better. just my opinion
for dessert - mindy's hot chocolate... they also have 1 of the best hamburgers i've had.
steak anyone? infinite choices here. 3 Forks is good and they have a rooftop.

So, Elise, quit your day job and write "The Escort's Guide to Fabulous Dining (and not just at the Y)".  See you on the 'Today Show"!

Had lunch there to day and was blown away.
Hoping I can get there for dinner before I leave town!
They have a keffir lime / coconut sorbet with bits of peaches, then they pour a bit of a turkish strawberry soda over it to make a float. So delicious and refreshing.
It's technically a wine bar, even though the menu is full force, so they have a really amazing wine list.

Here are a few guides I've been following -

I visited Sepia, but Blackbird, Roister and Publican are still on my to do list for my next visit. Eventually I'll get into Alinea...

A bit off the beaten track, but an easy L or cab ride, is Smoque. Hands down the best BBQ in the city. They don't do beef ribs, and I don't know of a place that does, but their brisket is out of this world.

Ryo Sushi in the Loop had an excellent selection of Japanese food.

For dessert, stop by the Portillo's on Ontario for a slice of their chocolate cake. You can thank me later.

ETA: I'll second Ms. Luxe's recommendation of Union.
