I won't be calling anyone again so no need for another number. Like i said i wasnt planning to do anything anyway. I may be changing mine though. If it was law enforcement wouldn't they be able to track me down through the number, even if I change it now?

I didn't tell them any info about myself.

Thanks for the tips.

I had contacted someone from CL over the weekend via text while I had been drinking. There was a little back and forth questioning about options.  I never agreed to meet or on a price for anything. I also never agreed on a meeting place or time. I actually had no intention of doing anything just trying to have some conversation.

I ended up not doing anything and forgot about it. Two or three days later ( last night) I was extend from that number and it was someone talking about how I need to leave this girl alone and that she has a man. I had already forgotten about it And I just said ok and that was that.

Then today I got a text from the same number at 6am about how it was a county officer and they were coming to my home and work to talk to me about solicitation. I said I didn't solicit and the conversation went back and forth a bit. They gave an officer's name, which I couldn't find online.

I called two attorneys, one thought it was probably a scam and one took it more seriously.

I obviously hope it was a scam but I am freaked out.

Does anyone have an opinion on this besides telling me I am an idiot

IGNORE all future texts, calls, messages or other communications from that number.  Don't answer or respond and just keep deleting them - whoever is doing it will get tired of no response and quit.

I would also guess that this is just someone fucking with you a little bit.  Cops don't usually text you or call you in advance and tell you they are coming to talk to you and what it's about.  They'd much rather catch you off guard hoping you will make some admissions.  Telling you in advance gives you a much better advantage i.e.  you can think up a good cover story or call an attorney.  Best bet, if it is cops - shut the fuck up - say nothing other than I want an attorney prior to answering any questions.

Thanks. The thing is they actually gave me an officers name and district location with a street. And they said they suggested I call a lawyer.

They hadn't said anything for 8 hours(coincidentally the length of a work shift?) until just now when they said "It is Simple I will have you all this recorded yes we have traces your employment and I will be to.see tou".

The typing and grammar has been terrible the entire time, which makes me think it isn't the police.

I am going to take your advice and ignore it. Maybe it is wishful thinking but I think someone is just messing with me.

I guess the only other concern is someone messing with me who tries to find me or get money from me.

I would block the number, or at least completely ignore it, and if they escalate things, you might consider calling LE yourself.

LE is not going to give a shit about your drunken texting to a hooker, but they will take seriously any attempts to extort, blackmail, or otherwise do you harm by whoever is "messing" with you.

Any such is reason to get a new hobby phone.  What ever information you gave is what the person is fishing with.  If you didn't give your name or employment, they do not have it.  Look back over your texts &  see what info you gave.

It could be a blackmail or extortion attempt but frankly, changing the phone number is the best option.  Sometimes gals are in on scams...  other times BFs or pimps run them.  And if you text, you don't even get the sound of her voice to work off.

Hobby phone, hobby email...   I changed my hobby phone about a year ago because some spammer got a hold of my old number...

all you have to do is google he damn number? really no one has given you this advice? If you google and nothing comes up most providers have a way of checking phone numbers and emails out. email me privately and I will look it up.

geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz people come on help the guy out and calm his nerves.

Yea, the county sheriffs office always texts people before they arrest them so they can pack for jail.  Did you ever think it the SO of the person you were talking to...and get this... he's fucking with you for calling his girl.  BTW, you are acting like an idiot

Yes I know I am acting like an idiot. Obviously they wouldn't tell me but they did give an officers name and the location of the police station, which threw me off.

The person has not said anything since yesterday afternoon and I didn't respond.

A "hobby phone" or a gal's "work phone" are generally a prepaid phone with no real name, address or email linked to it.  So if one throws the phone away...  it's harder to trace...  and certainly not without a court order.  Now if you left a dead body in the room, you'll be caught...  that's different.  But harassing phone calls by the gal's BF will stop.
Cops will not tell you they are coming over nor will they tell you that they know where you work.   If you were really a suspect, you'd not be given an opportunity to make up a story or bail or get an atty in advance.
There are some rare jurisdictions where intent is inferred from ads on line,  but in most cases, cops only arrest in face to face situations where one party is an undercover officer...  after the conversation becomes sex for money.  Face to face, there's no need to prove WHO said it.  Whereas Texts or emails or phone calls...  hard to prove who was on the other end.  In most jurisdictions (though it is changing in the Puritan US), solicitation is a misdemeanor.  Commonly misdemeanors must be witnessed BY a LEO unless the perp is foolish enough to admit the violation.

You should not have gone back & forth...  giving these sickos the attention they wanted.  It is very well known, that no one has ever talked their way out of trouble with LE...  but talking has gotten many folks into trouble they could have avoided.

A good rule of thumb is to never say or write anything that can be construed as sex for money until the woman has gone way further than a female undercover cop ever would. If your emails all talked about an "appointment" or "our time together", without even referencing an escort ad, you can always claim that you understood the service for which you dropped the envelope to be a perfectly legal therapeutic massage. Might not stop them from busting you, but without any sex-for-money trail and having a plausible defense that the service was legit, I would think prosecution would be very hard. Odds are the cop would try to force a sex-for-money conversation, which would be a red flag, and you could even object, making it even harder for them.
