I'm headed for Vegas on business later this month and wanted to know the story on "Sally's Ranch". Is it worth the effort? What is the law in Nevada? All legal or what?

...there IS a legal brothel known as "Sheri's Ranch" in nearby Pahrump (the more famous Chichen Ranch legal brothel is also located there, right next door to Sheri's). So I'm assuming that this is what you're refering to here.
There is a long-running, ongoing debate between patronizing LPIN (Legal Prostitution In Nevada) or seeing well-known, well-reviewed independent escorts (indies) in Las Vegas. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, depending upon your perspective and needs. It is generally agreed by most here that either of those options is much bettter than taking a chance with any of the (so-called) escort "agencies" in Sin City - the vast majority of which are rip-offs - or trying to pick up any of the so-called "bar girls". But all of the above alternatives are infinitely better than taking a chance with your life, health, money, and freedom by attempting to patronize any Las Vegas streetwalker.
I won't rehash the debate, but will try to summarize below:
LPIN Advantages:
- legality
- confidentiality (by paying in cash you can remain totally anonymous, if you wish)
- safety: regular (mandataed) medical checkups of the women
- large selection of ready & willing ladies, which allows for alternatives in case negotiations fail with a given courtesan
- brothels open and ladies available 24/7
- "specialty" facilities available on-site (e.g., bungalows, dungeons)
Indie Advantages:
- lower price (generally...as there is no "house cut" to cover)
- outcall almost always available (ladies can come to your place and/or accompany you "out on the town")
- no "negotiations" necessary for price/services
- no hour-long drive/ride necessary
LPIN Disadvantages:
- long drive (or ride) out to Pahrump (or farther, for the other brothels in the region)
- no "outdates" possible (ladies cannot accompany clients outside of the brothel)
- negotiations required, as no prices/activities can be discussed except in-person within the lady's room at the brothel (i.e., no "advance" negotiations)
- generally more restrictive rules on activities (e.g., no CIM and BBBJs rare - though the health conscious might regard this as a distinct "advantage")
- "line-up" system often intimidates newbies to select a lady without a chance to talk to her to see if you're compatible
- "house cut" tends to drive up prices
- "free" limo service not really free (cost is recovered in increased price of parties)
Indie Disadvantages:
- illegality (though with the top ladies, this is rarely a problem unless you're inexpenienced with procedures in this "hobby")
- references or detailed personal information often required for her screening process
- having to select a lady (or ladies) from limited information available on the 'Net
- having to book in advance, in most cases
- limited altenatives if the lady you're interested in is unavailable or has to cancel at the last minute

Yes, I did mean Sherri's Ranch. I think I want to explore both as i will be out on multiple occaisions. I figure the safety of a legal brothel would be good, but have had good luck in Atlanta and Toronto with my review searches.

that you go to Sherri's, if you want the brothel experience. It's a somewhat tasteful, clean, well run operation.....Spinner's post pointed out much to consider. Be ready to negotiate, they'll start out hoping you'll agree to very high figures.....and, then while going down....discount offerings. Go midday or early afternoon, larger selection and fresher girls.
Then do some research here, and find an Indie or several (some of the best, here in Vegas!) that read good to you. You will get MUCH more for your money! The girls, at any brothel, actually get as little as 1/3 of your money for their cut. Many of them look good and work hard, but rely on quantity to make it (one gal there, I spoke with a couple of years ago, said she'd been with as many as 15 clients in one day)........so, naturally, more clock watching....and, more than a single pop....can be very expensive!
Some is relative to your budget. My hard earned dollars are going to the Indies!

I agree with most of what you said, but anyone seeking the "brothel experience" should NOT overlook the Chicken Ranch, which is right next door to Sheri's. While its facilities are a little older, it is nonetheless equally clean, comfortable, and tasteful. But to me the big difference is that I believe the management of the CR makes it, in my opinion, one of the two best-run legal brothels in the whole state of Nevada (The Wild Horse Canyon Ranch outside of Reno would be the other). Unlike their neighbor, Sheri's management features photos its website of ladies who only worked there for a week or two, or who were last available there over two years ago, or (amazingly enough) who are even currently working right next door at the competition - all of which can create false impressions about what (and who) potential clients may find when they visit.
To their credit, Sheri's ownership has indeed built a lavish and impressive facility. But the huge sums of money they've put into expanding and upgrading their property have to be recovered somehow - which often leads to not-so-subtle pressure on their courtesans to upsell, often resulting in higher prices to potential clients. The CR, on the other hand, now has the reputation for much more affordable parties (which wasn't always the case in the past). Of course, as always, YMMV and you always have to remember that indivdual ladies are just that, individuals, and charge what they can get regardless of where they currently work. There are some great ladies at each of these houses, and some ones to beware of at both as well. I just want to warn the first-timers to not fall victim to the hype, and be sure to check out BOTH places before they come away with any false impressions of LPIN in Pahrump.

One of the most beautiful women at Sheri's told me recently that in a one-week stay there this past summer she booked a grand total of one party. And that was on the 7th day of her stay. Maybe the word is getting out on just how expensive that place is.

Since you mentioned safety, there are several of the top indies in Las Vegas who got their start (or at some point worked) in the legal brothels. Ladies who've carried over the health and safety practices that were enforced while working in LPIN to their indie careers (such as regular medical exams, no "risky" or unsafe activities, etc.) - unlike some of their (unfortunately, sometimes more "popular") colleagues in town.
