For being an incompetent mail handler.  They tend to have very agressive inbound spam policies, yet they also seem to host a fair number of scam & spam organizations without repercussions.

Personally, I'd also avoid gmail, simply due to their fully automated scanning.

I've had a hushmail account for years, but it also has it's warts.  Their servers did used to go down for a few hours periodically, but over the last year or 2, that's been better.  One thing that I did discover (with another former provider here,) was that a hushmail alias was unable to send email to another hushmail alias.  I never did follow up any further on the alias problem.

Well...I just ended up switching everything over to hushmail. MAN!!! Things have changed!!  All's well that ends well

Gmail is as bad as its Google play and the like.  Far too much scanning of content for whatever reasons and they will also exploit your address book. I would say yahoo or hushmail, but don't write your autobiography in any online mail portal. It's "free", so take the bad with the good.

OMB is relatively new and still undergoing what I would call growing pains. Their servers are down for maintenance quite a bit for what can be several hours at a time. Keep in mind their servers are located in Europe and Europe is usually 6-7 hours ahead of the U.S. based on CST and EST. When their servers are down late at night or early morning it usually is prime time for us and things can get complicated if one is attempting to communicate in real time.

Other issues I have recognized is that not every email service recognizes the openmailbox.org domain as a legitimate email service provider as their servers are relatively new with no history and mail that originates out of that domain will get classified as spam.

OMB spam filters are poor, many times legitimate email gets classified as spam and will get thrashed immediately by their servers. Mail that gets thrashed by their servers will not even make it to your spam folder for you to find later.

I tried it for a couple weeks in late July and quit. Their UI is old, dated and not user friendly. Navigating that UI takes a lot of work. Hushmail has issues but probably still the most reliable for those that desire discretion and privacy
