......better upfront research and conversation. You can get great service from agency girls and from independents. You just have to do the research and if reviews are not available you have to go through the process of back and forth to make sure you're on the same page regarding service.
If a provider seems new, I'd rather trust one who works with a reputed agency. It's not uncommon for newbie providers to take phone calls or text while being with a client. However, if the provider is established, then I assume there is no big difference between an agency provider and an independent provider.
That said, there is another factor I worry about. Who is better at securing my information and identity? Agencies generally have better security and unless an agency is busted, your info is probably safer with an agency. Most independents keep everything on their phone and if they lose it, all bets are off
May want to ask the folks in Arizona about a bust a number of years back involving a few agencies....where the client list was leaked. Plus, big agencies were busted in Florida and NY by the feds. You think the clients felt safer? Both agencies and indys have risks when it comes to secure info. But, the feds care about the big fish...agencies.
So many miss the forest for the trees when it comes to personal security. Paranoia does nothing, being aware of what risks you're taking does. If you want to risk LE actively going after you, go with an agency. If you want to risk doing something wrong and having a lady go "BSC" on you (oh, I can promise you most BSC is asked for), go with an agency. If you act like a normal human being, an Indy isn't going to cause you any more problems than an agency would, and you won't have such a large target on your back for cops to bother with unless she does something really stupid.
I had one experience of a provider who I liked a lot, giving me her contact number and asking me to call her directly. And naively, I did. She canceled once, postponed once (I assume because the agency booked her with other clients) and when I did see her, she had to rush me out as I was being squeezed between her agency appointments. And I paid her the same that I'd have paid her through the agency, but was a second class client. Lesson learned - if she is an agency lady, you are always better off seeing her through the agency.
A second experience was with a very well-reviewed agency provider that was superb and went independent. She hiked her rates - which means she is now trying to avoid agency commission as well as charge more (a lot of popular agency providers do this which often starts their downfall). Unlike someone how has been an indy from the beginning and worked hard to build a clientele, this one had a clientele and had no clue how to schedule, how to manage verifications etc. Someone who used to be a top notch provider became a lousy business person - the last time I saw her, she spent more time on the phone than with me.
My takeaway: avoid agency providers who are indies on the side. Be cautious of agency providers who suddenly become indies and jack up their rates
back to my first comment on this thread. Do your research, and be willing to have some exchange with the person or agency and you'll get a good idea of what to expect.
I'd think independents for sure. Seems agency girls are here today, gone tomorrow, appearing at a new agency with a new name, story, and background.
Independents, otoh, have their own business to run.
