I am traveling to a new place Downtown Hartford , I hate that I don't know anything about area .  Can you guys tell me what to be watchful of ? It looks nice on map view real 3 D up close . :) can't wait .
Stamford I'm totally comfortable with .

Enjoy your stay in lovely downtown Hartford. Its an easy going, laid back metropolis. The Hotels are wonderful and there are so many fine restaurants to enjoy. Check out some of the local parks. Spring is in the air. Enjoy. Might look you up and personally give you a tour

Hartford, as others have noted, has some great parks and is a walking city if your downtown between the freeways, the railway and the river.
After 6pm, in my experience, it becomes a ghost town even in the main core.
As such heightened situational awareness is required if you go out after 6pm.
Black Eyed Sally's and the Arch street tavern are pretty interesting. Food at Vito's on the park is good. If you have wheels, there are some great spots just outside the city in Vernon and Manchester among other places.
Enjoy the visit.

I would avoid west Hartford
