Penile Dopplers

Now, I'm interested on the Procedures pref medication they've given you whether it's ingested or injected whatever that maybe, I'm curios now, maybe you can inquire WTF kind of medication they used to dilates those collapse arteries, to increase the blood flow so you can get a boner before they proceed with the ultrasound. Maybe that's all we need rather than going through the procedure.. Just sayin'

As I mentioned on a previous note I had my annual physical exam last Tuesday. During the physical my doctor discussed the lab work results. Everything turned out to be within the acceptable ranges, including my "T" levels. We discussed how my 20 mg Levitra prescription rarely works. The ole pecker is nothing more than a dust flap (most of the time). My doctor recommended a specialist, a urologist. I will be seeing a urologist that is the head of Urology at UCLA. I will be getting what is called a "Penile Doppler".

Below is a description ... Does anyone have any experience with said procedure? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

PENILE DOPPLERS

A Penile Doppler is a diagnostic procedure using ultrasound to look for the causes of Erectile Dysfunction (ED). The ultrasound performed just before and during a medically stimulated erection allows the Skyline Urology specialist to measure blood flow to the penis in its erect state, and to predict the response of your ED to vasodilator medications. It also allows your Skyline Urologist to determine if you have an “inflow” or “outflow” type of ED, which will further inform the treatment plan to treat your case.

Procedure

The Penile Doppler Ultrasound takes approximately 30 minutes. The patient is asked to lie on an exam table, and then given a medication which dilates the arteries to the penis, increasing blood flow and causing an erection. A penile Doppler ultrasound is performedto look at the blood vessels and flow in the penis.

Side Effects

The Penile Doppler Ultrasound is performed by placing the probe along the outside of the penis, so no pain is involved in that portion of the procedure.

Side effects after the procedure may include:

Minimal discomfort at the site of the injection
A prolonged erection (which may require further treatment to resolve)

Thanks for taking the time to read such a lengthy post

Sorry can't offer more info or advice, other than you might ask the doc how long the afterglow will last in case you want to dash out for an appointment...or two....or three.  Good luck, amigo.

...like some people can tell it's going to rain by the ache in their knee.  Sorry, couldn't resist.

I never heard of penile doppler and I'm always leery of new methods so I did a little research.

Penile doppler seems to be an updated version of penile arteriography which has been around since 1978.  In penile arteriography, a contrasting dye is injected.  In penile doppler, the dye isn't necessary because anatomical information is obtained with an ultrasound.

Penile doppler also involves an erection which provides information about the function of the penis, not just the anatomy as penile arteriography does.

I would trust the head of urology at UCLA (stay away from USC - fucking Trojans).  I say go for it.

I just say:  Wait a minute, I'll stick it out and see.

Oddly, they don't stick around to hear the answer.

a frozen cock sickle is a scarey thing. and being cold cocked can be painful. :)

Yes, I had this a few years ago, prior to getting a penile implant.  In my case they did the ultrasound on my flaccid penis, then injected it, then did the ultrasound again. Usually it would be alprostadil (aka paparavine, I think) for the injection, which is one of the ingredients in trimix.  Or they could use a trimix combo.  If you are capable of getting an erection you will get one.  In my case I wasn't.  Doesn't hurt much.  About 30% or so of men get a significant ache after alprostadil injections, which lasts for about as long as your erection (hour or so), which is why trimix is better (requires a lower does of alprostadil) or bimix which omits alprostadil entirely.  If you have trouble getting rid of the erection they will probably inject you again with something to make it go away, or maybe try some oral medication.  Penis injections sound much worse than the are.

This will map out the blood flow in your penis, and help diagnose the cause of your ed.  It might also reveal, to some extent, the interior structures of you penis.  This is a common ED diagnostic.  If you get a decent erection, it will also give you an indication of whether penile injections could be useful as an ED treatment.

Franktalk has lots of useful information.

... to all that took the time to read my post and especially to those that were able to contribute feedback. I will keep everyone abreast of the findings and outcome. I am waiting for an appointment at the urology lab. A side comment made at my physical exam appointment. I exercise by riding my bicycle up and down the bike path at the beach. I ride about 40 to 90 minutes about 5 times a week. The doctor said a contributing factor could be the bicycle seat affecting the nerves which reside by the prostate and lead up to the penis. He also said if this is a problem the urologist will definitely know. I unfortunately cannot run or walk much because I have had several knee surgeries on my left knee. I enjoy the extensive scenery along the beach. I think you know what I am referring to,  so I hope bike riding can be accommodated.

Thanks again

Doppler to us sonarmen was how we could tell if the sub was Coming or Going, which amuses me in this thread.  Excuse the foibles of this old coot.:o)
