One interesting aside on protection...

Some people suggest that the infection rate among some sex workers may be lower because they are better about using protection...haven't seen actual data to support that idea, though.
The female condom (when used correctly) MAY provide a bit more protection from skin based diseases like Herpes because of the larger coverage area. While I've never seen any sort of studies on this, the theory is at least sound. (Please note that I say "a bit more protection" and not total protection. Unless you're saran wrapping from the thighs up to several inches above the genitals, herpes transmission is still a risk. :-)) Since FC use is pretty rare outside of the companionship realm in the US-I've never seen female condoms used by civvies, except in situations where a lady or gent knows/has been introduced to them by way of a companion-one could infer that ladies who use FCs may indeed have a lower risk. Again, we're running on logic here, rather than actual studies, but food for thought, nonetheless. :-)

As for the other STD baddies, a number of studies do indeed support that companions (including street level providers) have a lower rate than civilian ladies. If ever we needed proof in the power of the condom...

Wondering what percentage you guys and gals think have it?  Have you met any that disclosed as such ?

I've been at it over 2 years and haven't run into anyone yet.  Maybe I've been lucky?

A quick google search should help you understand that the odds strongly suggest that you have in fact run into someone with herpes.  Assuming you are talking about genital herpes (or more specifically HSV-2 as opposed to herpes in the nether regions caused by HSV-1, which is becoming more common), the CDC puts the percentage of the population between the ages of 14 and 49 with herpes at about 17% (1 in 6).  It's more common in women (25%) than in men.  Other sources put the estimated percent of those with HSV-2 significantly higher because many people with the virus do not know they have it.  You have written 23 reviews.  If those reviews are all for different providers, the odds (just the odds...I am NOT talking about actual people here) suggest that about six of those 23 providers had herpes.   Some people suggest that the infection rate among some sex workers may be lower because they are better about using protection...haven't seen actual data to support that idea, though.  Sorry to be a buzz kill, but herpes is very very common.  You and everyone else that is sexually active are taking a risk.  It's up to you to decide whether it's a risk you can tolerate, but make your decision with your eyes open and take the appropriate steps to minimize the risk

That is an incredibly well written and informative post.

Those questions usually elicit a load of mud slinging and useless posts.

I too wondered if it was a serious question.

Thanks for taking the time to share all that.

Check the link below.
There is a high chance most of the people on here have it or just a matter of time before they get it. Condoms don't protect you against HSV-2. The best way to prevent it is not have sex with people who have an outbreak and infected people taking Valtrex to reduce viral load.
Unfortunately many people don't know they have herpes and  don't take Valtrex. The other problem is infection during the asymptomatic shedding of the virus. During that time even the infected don't know they are contagious

Last message got away from me too quickly...

It's fair to share information, but you should recognize that there could well be a significant difference between Singapore and the US in terms of the percentage of sex workers with any transmissible infection.  For starters, education, opportunity, and access to health care are all very different in Singapore than they are in the US.  It's not safe to assume that the results of that sort of study would be identical if conducted in the US

I take your point...but you aren't taking mine, which was only that you are not comparing apples to apples.

Singapore has a higher per capita income than the US. Singapore is number 3 in the world and US number 10 according to the International Monetary Fund.
So US should be worse if you want to use that yard stick.

HSV-1 herpes is more common than people think.  It is known as oral herpes.  If you every experienced a cold sore (ulcer on the inside of your mouth) or a fever blister, you have oral herpes.  The only people who don't have oral herpes are those who never kissed as oral herpes is spread by saliva.  Parents and relatives transmit HSV-1 herpes to children in their early childhood
