Thanks for all the good advice so far. Would love to hear more.

I'm being blackmailed by a provider. Does anyone have any advice or solutions?  Thanks

Their influence might be able to control the situation.

Good luck.

This is what I did once, and nothing came of it.

If you start paying, she will only up the ante on you.

Reporting her to TER, if you have any solid evidence would be a good idea, and if you think it necessary, you might want to consult a lawyer about it too.

I was just visiting on this board -- I can say Mr. Fisher's advice is almost always spot on.  If you don't have an attorney on retainer for any hobby-related emergencies -- I suggest this for all of us -- you should get one now.

I know nothing about your situation.  But here in Chicago, it would take a pro to pull this crap off without winding up in Cook County for a spell.

Your deed is already done...which is a misdemeanor    blackmail can be a felony and carry substantial fine coupled with time in the clink.  Tell her to go for it and letcha know how she makes out.

What is the provider threatening to do? Email your wife? Inform the electorate in your next elections? Call the cops? There's nothing for her to gain by doing any of those things.

I think the universal advice is that once you succumb to blackmail, you're sunk.

Blackmail is a more serious offense than anything you did. You could contact police and tell them that so-and-so (you must have her contact info since she's in communication with you) is trying to blackmail you over some ridiculous affair or something with her after you met and chatted with for a while. Don't add any untrue detail, just leave out things you don't want them to know. Let her know you've reported her attempt to [officer who took the report] at [department] police. Don't bargain with her. Don't explain. Don't give her any information other than that you made the report and to whom. Then move on with your life and never respond to any contact from her again in the unlikely event she tries to make any.

A girl who thought she'd identified me once threatened to contact my wife unless I "tipped" her 10 0%. I phoned my wife, said "Hey, honey, that girl you picked out for me this trip wants to tell you all about our appointment", and handed her the phone. She didn't seem to have anything to say. When I got the phone back, my wife asked "What? Was her jaw too sore to talk?"

no lie its illegal she needs to know if she proceeds you will get the cops involved
also so you know they kept his identity secret as he was the victim
the cops have no tolerance for blackmail

Then she can do whatever she wants.. The only time it can get sticky is if she calls rape. If she already didn't do that your all set..

If she threatens to call your wife have your story set that you were at a strip club she tried to shake you down.
