Nothing surprising about this; in fact I'd be surprised if the ladies didn't have something like this.  You do need to watch out for yourselves and I for one have no quarrel with that.  I do confess to a mild curiousity though about what, if anything, is said about me :).

I am not trying to start anything but.. How come when a provider rips someone off, info is shared about this girl, but when a hobbyist rips some off, you can't post anything because that is just giving out personal info? just wondering?

Tymber, best way to address that is to putthe post of the Hobbyist rip off but DO NOT mention names or phone number. Have them PM you for details.  You could say his phone number has a prefix of  XXX or ends in xx

I suggest you contact Staff or Turkana to get an official position on how best to handle this.

Tymber,

I think that it's just the way it is, not much can be done about it.  Presumably, the "stage name" and phone number that a provider uses to advertise are information that she has chosen to publicize...  Being the "advertising party" of the transaction, it's assumed that she hasn't made public any contact info that is secret.

The same is not true for guys, who are often asked to provide their real personal info for verification purposes.  If it becomes acceptable to EVER use this info for anyother purpose, even to report a legitimate rip-off, then the hobby as we know it would dry up almost overnight.

I know that the whole idea of TER and similar review sites SEEM unfair, in that the judgemental nature of reviews and reports seems one-sided.  But in the long term, it works.  Confidence that ripoffs and poor performers will be revealed increases hobbyist participation and improves the revenue stream of all providers.

I think that it's really important for providers--legitimate, non-ripoff providers like yourself--to realize that they too benefit from these ripoff reports.  We tend to think of the hobby in terms of a "girl's team" and a "boy's team," and we react to an attack on "our team" as an attack on us.  But the fact that rip-off, bait/switch, and chronic no-show providers can and are outted benefits both the hobbyist AND the legitimate, professional provider.

Now, don't kill the messenger here... ;-)

But on The other BoarD, ladies who are members have a database of men.  We often post the information on the Rip-off guys, dangerous guys, and other guys.  Not all information is posted, like full real names, unless he is a dangerous guy.  IMO, it's a good tool to have and I know a lot of ladies, even locals, are grateful for it.

Just because the men pay us, doesn't give them the right to treat us bad.  It also doesn't give them the exclusion of not being reviewed, good or bad.  There are so many wackos out in this world, and a lot of them migrate to this "hobby" because prostitutes are easy targets.  With a database for us online ladies to view and contribute to, it can really save us from a bad experience. (Just as guys are saved from a bad experience if they write reviews about it.)

There is also the means of backchannel to warn other ladies, as the guys have mentioned.  There are ladies only groups that also keep track of the bad guys.  Hopefully these posts help all ladies get the word out about the bad guys.

Bottom line is, there is nothing you guys can do about it, just as there is nothing we can do about reviews being posted of us on [name your board].  I'm not trying to sound mean, it's just the reality of the situation.

I agree that the hobby as a whole also benefits when the bad guys are weeded out too...  Really what I was saying is that we should stop seeing the teams as "boys" and "girls" and instead divide the hobby between people who take it seriously/respect it, and those who don't.  In society, we almost always draw a "we/they" line somewhere, and for some reason, we almost always draw it in the wrong place.

I think though, that a private database like you've mentioned is absolutely frought with risks and complications.  It doesn't have any checks and balances...  Here on TER, if I post something out of line, plenty of guys and gals can call me on it, and I may get moderated or booted.  The public nature of it makes TER seem "riskier" to the provider, but the public nature of it also requires me to behave if I want to keep hobbying in this town.  Imagine how you'd feel about reviews and the board if TER and TBD announced tomorrow that they had a way to keep providers out and you could no longer see the boards or reviews...  You'd probably feel like the private nature of it poses more risks to you than a more public forum would.

I've wondered about this myself, Tymber.  I think that MDL has stated the way it works:  send out an alert and offer details in a PM.  But what is somewhat troubling is that a provider rip-off gets publicize and a hobbyist does not.  The problem is that the potential for abuse exists on both sides -- maybe the provider wasn't a ripoff, and the guy was just hard to please.  Or maybe the guy wasn't a ripoff, and the provider wanted too much.  Either way, somebody gets painted with a big black brush when they don't deserve it.

I suppose, ultimately, one answer would be this:  if the hobbyist is identified by his TER handle, then it's on an even playing field with publicizing a provider who's a ripoff, since providers use handles as well.

Turk,
I have to disagree with your last paragraph to a certain extent.  The reveiws of the providers are not just complaints about the rare bait and switch ladies, etc.  By far most of them are very very complimentary to the given provider.  So when a provider gets one or two sets of low marks they are balanced with all the many high marks she has gotten.  When a guy doesn't behave properly in the mind of a lady and she uses the back channeling or even a public board to "out" him there is nothing to balance it against.  He is just SOL among the ladies from that day on.  It is a VERY rare thing for a provider to post how nice a man was to her on a public board.  I doubt if it happens much on the back channel boards either.  We are expected to be nice and respectful.  We should be, so it is not mind blowing enough to post it just because we were decent guys in the mind of a given provider.  IMO we just all need to look in the mirror before slaming anyone else.  My .02 worth.

I think it's silly to think all things pertaining to clients should also pertain to providers and vice versa.  In any business there are differences in how the business and the customer have to act.  I don't have a key to the Wal-mart.  I don't set their hours.  If they screw up I can tell all my friends.  On the otherhand I've never seen them tell anyone I'm a bad customer.  I know the women aren't Wal-mart but that's just an example.  Another would be your doctor.  He/she can write prescriptions and can make you wait all day in the waiting room.  So what?

How about this?  If the provider starts paying me she can post anything about me she wants to!
