I see there's not much to do in Oak Brook so I am open to suggestions for Chicago. Do tell!

So I joke, of course I know Oakbrook is a part of town in Chicago, but as a total NOOB to the Chicago scene and navigation, I don't know much about the area I will be spending almost 3 days in next week. What is your favorite place to eat/drink in the area? What are some of the MUST SEE locations in Oak Brook and Chicago at large? I know there is a thread here already about the magnificent mile (great information by the way) But most of my time will be in the suburbs.

Share your knowledge!

Thank

I don't know that it has anything specific to offer unless you like polo, golfing, shopping or eating.  If you really want to experience Chicago you need to be in the city itself.

I think I'll pass on the polo and golfing, but I do enjoy a good meal and an even better deal!

I suppose it depends on what you like to do. There are a lot of museums to checkout. I'm planning on going to Adler After Dark next week. The Adler is the planetarium. Stay away from the tourist traps like Navy Pier. There isn't much going on there except for sub-par food and merchandise no one really wants. That being said I do like the stained glass exhibit.

I would say that you should checkout Millennium Park and the Buckingham Fountain or apparently the Married With Children Fountain (shakes head in disgust) which is apparently the only place some people know it from. The theater district has a lot going on, I still need to checkout the Book of Mormon. There are some architectural tours of the city, I believe there is a bus as well as a river boat that does tours.

Of course there are a lot of great bars and restaurants all throughout the city. It just depends on what you like. Restaurant Row has some great places like Girl and the Goat, Little Goat, Au Chevile and a Moroccan restaurant which has belly dancing on certain nights. There are several other places over there but worth checking out.

If you're up for pizza try Peaquad's its arguably one of the best places for pizza and the plus is you can get an individual pizza instead of ordering something you won't finish and can't take home.

Wonderful information! I love museums and seeing places or restaurants that are unique to the city. Not necessarily tourist traps but places that have historical value or stunning architecture. I'm glad you warned me about Navy Pier. I've been asking people all week and that is the #1 thing people say. I've also been recommended to see the "bean"?. I would love to catch some theatre or ballet while I am in town but I hope not to have THAT much free time on my hands! LOL

It's in Oak Brook Terrace. The menu and food are just as good as the original location downtown, but not nearly as crowded. There are several other nice restaurants along Butterfield Rd or W. 22nd St.

I'm not much of a shopper but there are 2 malls very close by that feature branches of most all the upscale downtown department stores.

There are a few places to go to in Oakbrook terrace to include Ipic and few other restaurants and bars.
