Otherwise they will offer you a plea deal on your first offense or appoint a public defender. You will get a raw deal without a decent lawyer. if you have previous charges for this or anything else, you might be facing a felony. What you may be able to get is a "diversion program", a one day class that you complete that allows you to have your charges expunged upon completion.
