Not saying political discourse is of no value, I just look elswhere for it.  For those that seem to have forgotten, this is a board for Twin Cities Escorts & Massage.

Peace.

Correction: The page title says "TER Discussion Board."  Posters can discuss whatever they want as long as they keep it civil.  The election is a little over two weeks away and I bet after that there won't be many political discussions here because usually there aren't these types of posts here.  I may not enjoy discussing politics but it's obvious others do so let them discuss.  If you don't like the political posts don't read them.  There is still plenty of escort, massage, and dancer posts for you to read.

Thank you!

This democratic process of free debating among ourselves is boring compare to hobbying, but it's part of our lives living in USA. I respectfully disagree the mere suggestion that this Boards are only good for one purpose. Well even Hustler long ago published Vietnam war pix that made me think as an adult (how did I find that kind of smut when I was 10)Curiosity kills.... damn I feel horny, (fill in this blank so I can  still be a kitty lover).

Well, I agree and disagree...  (Now THAT sounds like a politician!)

I agree that discussion groups ought to be pretty free-flowing and follow the whims of the contributors.  But, and this is a big but:

1.  Political discussions virtually consumed the national board about 6 months ago, to the point where hobby traffic essentially tapered off.  I don't mean that the number of hobby posts remained constant but went down as a percentage of the total posts...  I mean that hobby traffic all but stopped.  So TER created a political board especially for the kinds of posts that have appeared here in the last week and they did in fact request that these threads be moved there.

2.  The charter of the regional boards is:  "Want to know what’s going on when the sun goes down? This is the place to find out – and share that kind of information."  If I started posting items for sale or used the board to report sightings of dutch elm beetles, those posts would be deleted because they don't contribute to the advancement of the hobby in the twin cities.  So why shouldn't "Bush is a commie...  No, Kerry is a commie" posts be deleted under the same thinking?  They no more promote the interests of the hobby than me posting a series of lengthy threads on the history of aluminum production.

3.  I'm politically active and I'd be all in favor of lively debate, if there was lively debate.  Listening to party-line puppets try to cram Bush's or Kerry's propoganda up my ass and then pretending that it's "debate" doesn't really get anywhere.  I would love to see lively discussions between undecideds, who use debate as it was intended--to evolve and refine their own viewpoints, to "test fly" unrefined thoughts and new argument structures.  But on TER it's simply a shouting match between entrenched partisans, and it just sucks any usefulness, or entertainment out of the debate.

It would seem to me that there's an obvious middle ground here:
a.  That the Bush/Kerry posts be on the political board, it's where they belong.
b.  That brief, debate-oriented posts about MN candidates be made here, it's where they belong;
c.  And that politically-oriented posts that relate to the hobby (like candidate views on legalization, privacy, etc.) be given more leeway in enforcing the rules than other political posts, no matter what board they're on.

Doesn't this seem like the right answer?

people may go find another board.  We are all here because of a hobby that brings us together.  Then we can help each other and learn.  Political discussions drive a wedge between us and seriously hamper the flow of information that we all came here for.  I can't stop you from posting political stuff but you are hurting TER when you do it.

Big political issues and national politics belong on the politics board.  If someone has something to say about local politics, I will allow a modest post here.   But as someone else said, this board exists so we can exchange information about hour hobby, not so we can scream at each other about politics -- we can do that elsewhere.

Remember, this is a very "special" place where we can talk, exchange information, opinions and ideas about our hobby -- which we (or at least most of us!) can't do around the dinner table at home, around the water cooler at work or at a bar or restaurant.  Let's keep it a special place for our special discussions.

Play hard, be safe.
