I have two daughters, both now grown.  When it happened to each of them (and it happens more than just their first love) I reminded them that the only emotions that they have any control over is their own.  The boy involved must have had some very good qualities for them to fall in love in the first place.  But a few good qualities don't equate to a lifetime of love.  For most people, there will be many "Loves Of Their Life".  Learn from each, take with you what you learn, and don't let your heart get hardened.

For my first luv I broke up n got back together a few times. My son was the result of it n last time I saw his father was 13 yrs ago. But my mother always said I don't need a man. But want 1. N he wasn't the one everything we went our own ways.  

As for my son. I showed him that I luv him n mom will b the only woman who won't break his heart n is always there. Lol that heart break hurts no reason why it does it just does. And if it was meant to b it will b. It's part of life and everyone goes thru it. None the less I got a I luv u mom n hug after the talk .

Mine was after the worst relationship disaster (engagement to be married) broke up in my mid-20's.  Took over a year to get over mostly, but there is light on the other side.   Tell him that, and be as supportive as you can.

Also beware if he is despondent, and expresses anything that suggests doing something extreme.  Teenagers are unpredictable, so be on the alert.   Remember your own experiences, and share as you feel necessary.

Cause in the end, we all have to go through heart breaks.  
It's the journey and no person can be our destination.
