Risks... you need to keep anything valuable including credit cards, checks, expensive watches, jewelry, etc. completely out of reach whether it's a local or a visiting provider. There is a difference between a hooker and an escort but do NOT take the chance. You can't exactly go to the police if something gets taken by an escort. I have never had it happen but don't risk it. In the autobiography of Malcolm X he talks about how white women that he was sleeping with would case out places for robbing later on. Some worked as maids, etc. in wealthy homes.
I'm assuming you are single. If you have a wife or live in girlfriend there is an obvious risk of getting caught one way or another even if she is gone for the weekend, etc. Women can sense that another woman was in the house sometimes.
The last risk is drama. If you read this board you will see it come up from time to time, especially lately. There was a long thread here not long ago about a providers boyfriend showing up... whether it was true or not there are crazy things that can happen.

I would not do it more than once in a long period of time, due to the nosy neighbors (I live in a family oriented, quiet suburban street) and I rarely have the house to myself. However, I did it recently with a provider whom I have known for ten years and have seen (in call) many, many times and who likes outcall. It was a once-in-three-years sort of opportunity for me, and the unique environment made for a very memorable session-- for both of us. At the end, she gathered up all the sheets and towels in a pile to make sure I would do the laundry .... thoughtful

If it was someone I've seen a few times before I'd consider it if I knew I was having the apartment to myself. Since I'm not in a relationship right now I wouldn't have to worry about much, but even though it's an appointment I'd still feel stressed to clean my place to make sure it's a comfortable environment. Hotels can get expensive but low maintenance.
It's actually really common. Agency girls are very familiar with the outcall scenario, but you'll want to make sure she has reviews by trustworthy reviewers and doesn't seem to be sketchy or flakey. Avoid Backpage like the plague. You don't want the desperate sort. I'd make sure she dresses down and doesn't wear typical "short red dress and heels" clubwear type clothing. I'd say most of my overnights are in someone's home.
As for visiting versus local, I don't think there's enough data to select one as "safer" as the other. If anything, a local will be less likely to get lost, and easier to repeat with in the future if all goes well.
I do have to ask, as a courtesy for the provider, have drinks available (WATER bottle, sealed), clean your bathroom, especially the toilet, spic and span and change your sheets ahead of time. Have mouthwash available in the bathroom just in case. And if it's a long overnight type thing-have shampoo and conditioner. Even if it's just the cheap Suave $1 stuff. I always forget mine and washing your hair with men's body wash is not a good look. Oh, and make sure you set that envelope out somewhere obvious so she'll see it as soon as she enters the door
