You probably already picked up a virus from somewhere else that reads data, waiting until you click on something naughty. Maybe a few things. The viruses can be set up to pick up patterns of your behavior, types of sites, etc. But has nothing to do with the site itself. It's like a time bomb already set for '23 clicks on porn videos and/or sex ads' - then BOOM!

More chance for hackers that you will be afraid to get help for fear of looking like a pervert, so you'll pay just to skip that embarrassment. Desperation calls for dumb moves. And they want someone who is regularly looking at naughty things so they will act out of shame, since there are likely many cookies in that computer that can't be erased before having it checked out. If it were the first click, it could possibly be explained as a simple mistake. Not very smart for a scam artist to target the person who has nothing to hide.

I had a friend or two who got the child pervert message from the FBI, and he simply took his computer into Best Buy and had them get rid of it. And they did. And they didn't laugh, (at least in front of him,) and they had seen it many times before.

Much cheaper, and you don't expose your PayPal account to crooks.

Don't underestimate how smart these viruses are. Scrambling the process so you don't easily find out where it came from. Look, now you believe the virus is from TER.

So I click on an ad in the Michigan Ad board, and what I get is a nasty virus, you know the one, that locks your computer out, says its from the FBI and you need to pay them 300 from a paypal account.
Well now I'm nervous about clicking on anyone's ad.  And then it occurs to me, this is how it happens.  A person, or agency, or government, place's an ad out there or connects a virus to a well known ad, that screws your system up so bad, that you're afraid to search anymore.  People that play at the office, well you're toast.  Doing you're hobby at home??  Well, now you've got a lot of explaining to do.
Look, I've got serious virus protection on my computer, or at least I thought I did, and I wasn't looking at free porn.  But I admit I have in the past.  But now I'm nervous.  If you PM me, I'll give you the name, not the link, of who I believe I got the virus from.  Don't want you to get it.

So how do you protect your self from this kinda of shit??  What virus protection equipment do you use that protects you from this stuff?

Is this how it all ends????

My regular client is sitting next to me now ...  He works in I.T.  ...
He said that there are no viruses that can be picked up by looking at TER itself ..

That is NOT what the OP was talking about, not even close. Please try to keep up or just go back to tweeting.

I've had this happen a few times, although it's been a few years. Usually a simple system restore will do the trick...just hope your computer has been automatically creating restore points. Sometimes the virus disables this quick option, so you need to reboot in safe mode.

I spend a great deal of time in the dark corners of the internet, and this type of thing is usually a risk when using peer to peer streaming or the ads on sites like Pirate Bay. By the way, that's a pretty good alibi...you were just downloading a mainstream movie and got the virus. I'm a little shocked this happened on TER, but there are ways to minimize your exposure. Avast has a great free anti-virus application that has proved adequate for me over the years, and some people think it's better than the less-acclaimed pay software like Norton and McAfee. At least once a month I click on something and it makes this loud noise to say it blocked a harmful website...

In these situations stay calm, grab another computer or your phone, and Google the problem.

this is a nasty virus; the above poster is correct that a system restore from safe mode might fix it.  I couldnt get rid of myself tho, and had to take it to geek squad to fix.  Cost more than $100.   Mcafee and Norton and MS protect on my computer did not block it.  I hate freaking hackers.

He called me, freaked out, asking whether he was going to jail, did he have to pay?  I showed him the signs of the pop up being an obvious fake, but the point is this thing lives on his computer.  In his case, it's not worth the trouble of getting rid of it.  Just like someone said, enough keystrokes toward "free porn" and out it comes.

Create a flashdrive of virus protecting software and update it regularly (I update mine once per week)

Reboot your machine in safe mode and use the tools to clean up your machine.  Use Norton Power Eraser for anything you don't recognize.

After that, you should be good to go. Also, if you are not already doing so, I would consider using browsers other than IE.  I use FireFox.

It's a scam. Don't send them any money.

That said, I did get something last week purporting to be from Safari (Apple's browser) that was clearly a scam (two mis-spellings).  It froze the whole thing up so I had to force quit and it was fine after that.

Great retina display, 3D action.

Oh. And less viruses lol :D

I thought this was mostly a male activity but it's hot when a girl does it!

And on the same board I was reading and I clicked a link to view the picture and
quickly after opening it the actual image vanished and my screen was engulfed
with this enormous porn page. Best Buy did fix it but then my desktop icons disappeared
and they told me I need a new CD rom to reinstall my programs.

Isn't doomsday when a providers husband walks in and whacks you in the back of your head with a frying pan?

when your wife whacks you on the back of the head with a frying pan. Either way, you're getting whacked.
